PROJECT PROPOSAL Ipek Yolbulan Music and Mind Fall April 23, of the project: Relevance of Music Education in Modern Curriculum It is axiomatic to squabble that music education is important to the mental maturity of a child. The project relates to the course in the sense that it attempts to establish the benefits and impacts of music education on students. The project focuses on young children up to high school students in terms of the incorporation of music education into their curriculum. Since the course is music and mind spring, the project looks into the impact on music education on students and young children both in school and at home. Since scholars have conducted vast research in the area, the project aims at coming up with suitable findings by reviewing various peer reviewed journals available in academic libraries. The project is especially helpful to music students because it delves into the fundamental aspects of music education. It relates to the course because the course also deals with various elements of music education. Besides, all the bibliographic sources pertain to music, which is the domain of the course. Therefore, the project satisfies the requirements of the course. The project could be evaluated based on a number of criteria, depending on the specificity of the project. At the end of the project, I shall have accomplished a number of learning objectives including but not limited to understanding the relevance of music education in modern school curricula. In addition, I will gain insight into the impact and mechanism of music education of children, especially on school-going children. In this regard, the examiners should look at the research question, hypotheses, and connect them with the findings in order to gauge the level of success of the project. The learning outcomes of the course will be evident in the project and this should be indicative of my effort in the project. In essence, the general criteria for success of the project should look into the connection between the project and the course. Furthermore, the success of the project will depend on the clarity of its arguments and how the researcher relates various ideas from different scholars as far as music education is concerned. Hypothesis The paper stipulates the null and alternative hypothesis as below; H­­­O: There is a great relevance of music education in modern curriculum H­­­1: There is a no relevance of music education in modern curriculum Discussion The curriculum developed by institutions is intended to pass on the institutions cultural values, heritage, knowledge skills and right language that will not only make students adapt to the changing times but also be able to appreciate their surroundings and how they can positively contribute. The working conditions of the future depend on the knowledge that is gained during the current times. With the changing complex in the societal conditions, the mission often changes. The changing times, and the supply and availability of the information, the school system faces different competing influence of one another mediator for the information. In understanding the rapid development in the society, how the knowledge based organizations such as schools resonate to the purpose generative and communicative processes in the society. Through the aesthetic and musical content, music education within the schools has a direct influence not only to the learners but also the entire society. It adds a lot of value to the traditional and cultural understanding of the societal believes and principles. It becomes relevant given that a number of students usually have a close connection and relationship with their culture through technology and music. Presently, the music life is associated to a high degree of the culture of the youths internationally. A myriad of young people are often willing to quick expression in the field of music the disseminated culture which is transactional in style. The music well of knowledge therefore originates from a single heritage and also from the emerging music. Music education is fundamental in the building of self esteem and team work in the life of a student. Children participating in music group easily learn how to cooperate and work with others to achieve the goal. With the structural guidance and rules when they are playing music, it is easy for a student to learn how to set goals. Team is very important, both the young and professionals, it also enhances the effective communication amongst them. Apart from teamwork, music also facilitates the creation of a long term friendship with the peers. The support system will make students feel that they are part of a group. Music education supports the building of skills and thinking capacity of young people and therefore perfumes better in class. Children are usually forced to think the blending of the song with other instruments parts. The student must think of the quality of the tone, dynamics, and blending with others. There are some subjects like math that require a lot of critical thinking and analysis. The dynamics and the tempo are written in different languages and therefore children are forced to develop higher thinking ability to understand. Without music, it will be tricky for students to develop critical thinking at a young age. It’s therefore necessary to include music education in music development. Music education helps in enhancing the discipline amongst students. Any musician is often faced with a number of issues and concepts that must be addressed. Through music, it is possible for students to remain discipline in all the issues that needs to be addressed. They are forced to carve a specific time to learn and practice new skills. Through schedule creation, the student learns to be very discipline and understand what they are doing. The saying “practice makes perfect’ is one of the benefit young learners get when they continue to practice. The inculcation of the same in the classroom will be beneficial as students will perfect their skills on various disciplines. Children will therefore be more efficient, understanding and budget with the time they have wisely. Methodology The paper primarily depended on the document analysis with minimal data obtained from USA and Australia education system. The qualitative technique was used to analyze the various curricular statements with regards to music. The study also analyzes a number of governments circular addressing the need to have music education as part of the curricular. Despite the fact that data collection was easy, it is noted that bringing the data together is quite high. It should also be noted that the data obtained from government sources is likely to be bias and might only incline to what the government needs to happen. It is also noted that the compression of some of the statements from various documented figures were not issued and therefore there was minimal discursive approach to the data. The study measured the benefits of music in education. It goes ahead to analyze the relevance of music education in the curricula. There are a number of findings that were obtained in the study with regards to the benefit of music education in the curricula. The most important factor is the fact that it builds on the skills of a child. It enhances their ability to reason and analytically apply the same concept in other class related issues. The other point is the ease by which students can apply cultural practices and connect the same to what happens in class. Finally, the paper looks at the preparation of the student into a mature professional and enhancement of their self esteem. Music education builds on the ability a child to reasonable address issues and improves their ability to work together in groups besides building on the weaknesses of others. Criticisms Despite the interesting discussions, one of the weaknesses that are noted is that the discursive approach through the qualitative technique is not adequate. The quantitative approach could have been discussed in in-depth. The two main areas that need improvement in the study include the use of quantitative approach to analyze the self esteem; and the quantitative connection between cultural practices and music education. As discussed above, policy makers should put a lot of emphasis on the need to support music education in schools. Therefore the study should focus more on the correlation between music development and the future development of leaders. The music development is connected with the course study since it builds on the importance of music development to the life of children. It reiterates the point that music is important to young kids. Besides being a stand alone career, the full and mature development of a kid can also be dependent on the inclusion music development in the curricular. The connection between music development and career building is quite interesting and presents a strong argument for music education. A keen interest should be built around the quantitative approach to some of the studies before a reasonable conclusion can be derived at. Conclusion It is unarguable that music education is important in the lives of the students. Music help sin the improvement of students learning skills and thinking capacity. The self esteem of a student not only builds their ability to reason but also a chance to interact with others and constructively raise and present issues. It should be noted that it is the responsibility of teachers to deliver the best knowledge to students. Teachers should be in a position to the motivation of students and their interest in music and be able to learn their study. Teachers should also ensure that there is a clear social and informal environment for student in school. It is only through the combination that students will deliver the best to students. The author argues that music education is not replacing the current studies but instead adopting it to help students understand the concepts further. The author hold that teachers should include music education as part of the curricular since the grasping of concepts will be high.
