Summary
The paper "New Wave versus Trendy 70s Music" describes that as far as Billy Joel is a rock’n’roll, funk, and new wave artist, at the very beginning of his “It’s Still Rock’n’Roll to Me” hit we can obviously hear drums and bass just as in many other similar songs of that time…

The texture of “It’s Still Rock’n’Roll to Me”, however, reminds more of a new wave style as far as it is minimal. Speaking about harmonies… They’re considered minimal as well. Besides, we can feel the pop influence thanks to the ubiquitous saxophone solo. Punk and funk elements are also noticed here. The texture is rather thick because three layers of instruments are present: string (guitars, bass), brass (sax), and keys (piano).

To my mind, the overall tempo sounds like a medium one with a greater speed perspective.
The mood of the song is rather positive, rebellious, and inspiring. The song is quite easy-going and light. I do admire such a mood as far as it saves from melancholy.

The dynamics stay the same while in most of the genres we can hear a growth of pressure and speed in the chorus.
The timbre is created with the help of a bit indifferent, but the major sound is produced by bass and two guitars mostly.
Except for adding a saxophone line for a moment, the texture stays about the same. There is no doubt this instrument’s solo enriches the song.

The end feels a bit of a blues style. The combination of different genres is always a nice decision.
I am pretty sure I won’t listen to it after all. The reason is that I prefer heavy music.
