Musicology from my understanding is the study of music and knowing all aspects the surround it in the effort to grasp its meaning and be able to interpret music in the most accurate way for historical purposes. Harvard Dictionary of Music defines the term musicology as, “the whole body of systematized knowledge about music which results from the application of a scientific method of investigation or research, or of philosophical speculation and rational systematization to the facts, the processes and the development of musical art, and to the relation of man in general...to that art”. (Indopedia). Historical musicology as I understood is referred to as the study of the musical history in vast dimensions covering all musical aspect from note to the relative events including the author or composer. The most significant part of musical history is the interpretative aspect of the meaning of such music within a particular time and society because interpretation paints a story of the raw data which becomes a story of musical history. The peculiar achievement of Orientalism is, of course, that it gives rise to misrecognition.
"During all the time since his marriage, while Leopold had been building his career, he and Maria Anna had experienced seven times the birth of an infant. Their first child, a boy, was born in August 1748 but died in February 1749. By this time, Maria Anna was pregnant with the second, a girl, who was born in June 1749 but died only six days later.
Though music has played a vital role in institutionalising culture as a state enterprise, it had to pass through a series of sacrifices. Music was initially perceived as a conservative art practiced in boundaries of the social life of eighteenth century which had its roots in the cultural aspect of a modern industrialised society (Rutten, 2009a).
During the Thatcher/Reagan years, it was received wisdom that ideology was what the other guy had. Capitalist democracy wasn't an ideology, but an ideology is a system of beliefs, which is transparent, which represents it as just 'the way things are', and seen this way it is the apparent naturalness of capitalist democracy that demonstrates its ideological status.

Musicology is, of course, simply the study of music and all that music entails (Middleton, Studying Popular Music, p. 103) and semiotics is the study of signs and meanings and how they are understood. Semiotics, therefore, is really less a study of the music itself than a study of how that music is interpreted by the listener.
