Verizon believes investing in Virginia positively impact the future economic of both Virginia and United States. For instance, in 2011 the company invested over 725 million dollars in Virginia’s wire line communication and information technology infrastructures (“Verizon in Virginia,” 2012). In support of academic programs, the company plans to be involved in three areas. The first initiative is to continue funding programs such as The Reading Connection. The Reading Connection is a reading festival held annually among Virginia elementary schools in promoting reading for Virginian children (“Verizon in Virginia,” 2012).
The second is provision of financial and technical support to the Virginia Literacy Foundation in strengthening literacy programs in rural and suburban schools. Lastly, Verizon plans to fund the Library of Virginia in support of online study skills training for a student in 3rd to 8th grade. This will help improve student’s performance in mathematics, English and social science. On the health care initiatives, the company looks forward to invest in technological project that enable Virginians access information on health issues online.
The company is also determined in supporting the health care sector to providing efficient and effective services to a large number of Virginians. It is also committed in helping the community fight domestic violence and online predators. For instance, Verizon plans to fund and contribute in campaigns in creating awareness on domestic violence. On the part of sustainability initiatives, the company plans to be the stewards in environmental conservation by elevating their expertise in energy management towards achieving good energy practices.
