nd both Cuba and Hawaii are islands so driving is an impossibility, without airports, airlines and planes visiting any of destinations would be next to impossible. Airlines have rejuvenated the tourism industry and contributed to the globalization of the tourist trade. Airlines give us unparalleled choice in the vacations we choose and commercial flight operators are the backbone of the dynamic tourist trade. Since many people travel to other countries as tourists or for work, what advantages do the experiences gained from travel offer people?

Accordingly should people be encouraged to travel? Traveling the world and seeing other cultures opens one’s eyes to different ways of life. Traveling can increase our knowledge of the world and teach us about other cultures. In addition, world travel should be encouraged in the post-9/11 world, a period in which the airline industry is under serious stress and financial pressure (Bryson, 2000). There is no better way to experience a culture or the ways in which people live than by visiting another country or society.

Traveling abroad for shorter durations is different from traveling for lengthy stays. When one travels for a few weeks or a few days, there is a tendency to maximize the pleasure one gets from the trip. Tourists are the mainstay of the airline and the hotel industry and they often spend a lot of money when abroad. Travel for tourism’s sake can be quite interesting and exciting provided one knows how to make the most of the experience. One need not be a backpacker or an adventurer to have exotic experiences.

Within the ambit of normal tourist travel, one can soak in the local ambience at each destination and have a pleasant experience. Leisure can often be lost in a trip such as this although most travelers, regardless of the duration for which they are gone, revel in experiencing different cultures and interacting with different people from all over the world.
