Courage and perseverance in the story A Woman like Me Perseverance is the quality from the inner personal feeling to continue doing something nevertheless how challenging it is, perseverance is highly supported by the ability of an individual to identify the specific goals that are being worked for, the goals need to be clearly defined, as this will act as an encouragement to conquer any obstacles on the way. (Candre, 47) Courage is the ability to or the quality of the mind that enables a person to face danger, pain bravely. Courage is an inner drive that pushes an individual to act or do something due he believes it can be done with him/her. (Lumpkin, 56). As from the book A Woman like Me Bettye, clearly show courage in pushing ahead nevertheless being abandoned by his best friend. A Woman like Me is a tour de force from one of the most outspoken female performers singing today and she is a force to be reckoned with. From the story, Bettye la Vette is able to deal and face the world with fear or danger without flinching Bettye in her life she faces more challenging events but with time .Some of the problems were as a result of friend influence they highly affected her behavioral changes. For instance Bettye La Vette after being in association with legends like Aretha Franklin, James Brown Otis Redding , and Marvin Gaye made her fade back into obscurity. As much of what threads on in the world about you due to what people think rather than actually what you are always be focused and keep the determination to success, also one need to present himself in the way he wants the world to observe the passion of pressing forward. (Lumpkin, 103) Being courageous and persistence one need to understand himself/herself better in terms of weakness and strengths as this will help you in winning over the obstacles on the way. Others pretend to be something they truly are not.  No matter which way you look at it, if you try to act like someone you are not, the truth will always appear in the end.  That is exactly what happened in Bettye. Previously, she pretended to be someone else but in real, she understands the true story of herself. (Candre, 98) Bettye La Vette emerged courageous and focused when she had the freedom to be associated with all types of individual from musicians to politicians from the book she clearly reveals herself as an individual who believes that no body as ever enjoyed the act of sex as she has done. For instance through the courage and the ability to keep her goals she was proud to present in the inauguration ceremony of United States of America present Barack Obama.         As an honorable woman, Bettye tends to hold back his true feelings in order not to offend others around him.  At one point in the book, Bettye La Vette fined herself in the presence of three weird sisters who make three absurd predictions.  One with her friend they leans toward believing them while his friend says, "And oftentimes, to win us to do our harm, the instruments of darkness tells us truths, win us with honest trifles, to betrays in deepest consequence".         Generally, courageous and persistence differs from true self. Bettye portrays herself to be more courageous and strong and wise, but inside he is truly weak. He says that any good fortune that may come to him in the future will come on its own.  He wants to appear collected, strong, and noble.         Bettye paints herself as a very potent woman. However, the murders and guilt beat at her conscience until she too crumbles. At one point in her life, she says “I have been in the industry for a long time with success in gaining fame and popularity” but later in life she again regrets being in the music industry but at the latter shows that Bettye La Vette appears strong and heartless in her actions toward others. Bettye at one time of her life when she was married she narrates even when her husband stands before her having a nervous breakdown in the banquet scene, instead of trying to help, she orders her poor delirious husband to bed so that he will not create a scene.  In both of the above cases, her husband turns to her for help, but she speaks harsh words to him to keep her appearance strong.  However, she is not strong at all.  From the personal story of Bettye La Vette is can be clearly be observed that individual always have a hidden behavior in live that enables her be strong and courageous that is not easily identified by other individual, for instance the personal mind thoughts cannot be exposed to the outsiders .        Bettye all paints a vivid picture of her personalities on the outside; but as proven, she is a very different person on the inside.  No matter what, courage and perseverance will conquer every impossible problem.  Whether it is slow or whether it is abrupt the truth will emerge in the end. Courage can be understood only by the way of action or by the way of talking within the public. (Candre, 156) For instance, from the home background, Bettye La Vette parents used to make and sell liquor as way of sustaining life and that lead to the growth of the author. It is clearly shows that it does matter how the individual looks from the day-to-day doings but the reality is well understood from the background of the individual no matter the challenges ones goes through with passion and determination everything is possible(Lumpkin, 131) Perseverance tries to express the true personality of an individual, in whatever way someone may try not to unreveal him/her, self the goals and focus and the courage to achieve them can only be identified by how she/he carries the day-to-day activities. (Lumpkin, 158). In the book of A Woman like Me, she tried to act like someone of different class but with courage, she was able to succeed although she knew the financial. economic, social, and spiritual status of her background that never pulled her backward. Conclusion  In fact, many abnormalities of behavior originate from subconscious beliefs. Neuroses and phobians usually have their background in such “truth”. In many situations a person respects and communicates easily with others when he/she understands his personality and he is able to courageously tackle a problem, fear should not be inflicted into another person is as this is the mature awareness that every individual has. It always observed that man battles with human nature even if the drives described are against the aging process itself. Courage and perseverance is seen by taking responsibility of whom you are and it accomplished in such a way that maximizes the potential from personal growth and self-actualization while reducing the unimportant effects inherent in static reality philosophical systems.
