Cyber work environments allow breaching of personal ethical values when individuals have access to other people’s information through hacking and cyber-crimes. As such, it is vital for computer-based environments to develop mechanisms to protect the ethical values of their workers. Persons working in a cyber work environment can illegally access and misuse the personal information of the workers. Ethical values in the workplace ensure that the personal information of employees such as names and birth dates are safe.

With the computer and the internet, work created by a person can easily be copied and used elsewhere by other persons. Therefore, ethical values in the workplace related to personal privacy and intellectual property rights may be compromised. In a computer-based workplace, it is possible for some workers to use the computer and information technology in manners that may harm other users in the workplace, the public, and even employers. Therefore, IT managers should develop and create awareness on the importance of legal and ethical values associated with computer use in the workplace (Oswalt & Elliot-Howard, 2003).

Other crimes such as cyberbullying may also compromise a person’s individual rights and ethical values. Policies to protect worker’s ethical values should be included in the operational activities in cyber work environments. Otherwise,
