She was in the first line of promoting civil rights and education and fought for the civil rights of African-American people and equal rights for women. She struggled to ensure education was accessible by African-Americans since it was important in empowering people.

In 1904, she started her first school among others for African American girls which were named Daytona Educational and Industrial Training school which later changed names to Bethune-Cookman College. She later came up with a National Association of Home Care for boys to attend. Despite all that, she fought against the discrimination and disparity that the black people were facing and opened a hospital and a high school for the blacks.

Mary McLeod Bethune involved herself in politics where she became the first African American woman in the White House while helping four different presidents. In 1917, Mary McLeod became the president of the Florida Federation of Colored Women. Later in 1924, she became the president of the National Association of Colored Women. In addition to that, she introduced another women’s council known as the National Council of Negro Women which was aimed at protecting the nationwide problems that were affecting the blacks and civil rights.

She headed the National Youth Administration’s Division of Negro Affairs in a directory position, and served as the vice president of NAACP in 1940, and later served on President Truman’s Committee for National Defense. She worked with many organizations and later she was given the responsibility of serving as a director in the Division of Negro Affairs her big concern was to assist the youth get job opportunities so that they can be in a position to be self-reliant and productive to the society hence becoming the first black lady in serving as the head of the federal agency.

Furthermore, Mary McLeod Bethune one of the known educators and activists above all where she handled social problems facing people. During her time, there was a church women’s movement which was composed of the black women proved through the colleges and the schools it supported.

She contributed to transforming the nation into a better world through providing schools that offered education to girls and also a National Association of Home Care for boys thus eradicating poverty amongst people, as well as, providing public affairs to all. There was farming and carpentry that helped people earn their living for better lives. Religion among people, which was led by the black women movement, played a big role in the life of families (Rummel, 2003). She was in the first line of securing jobs for people and creating more job opportunities as well.

The differences appeared in the gender roles and responsibilities among the African American people. They performed different roles according to their gender identity. African American females were more inspired than males. Moreover, there were differences in the stages the females underwent.

The pattern of expression was similar. They both used constructive communication behavior rather than destructive communication behavior. As men do, ladies also seek efficient and effective ways of using the available human resources and materials to earn a living hence reducing poverty. They both accepted each partner’s relationship satisfaction.

There has been increased medical care which has helped many females during their delivery periods and for medical attention in general. Gender roles have been recognized and now females have their roles to carry out. There have been shared tasks to successful couples which result in a reduced workforce.

They negotiate the differences by bringing out solidarity between themselves and the other factory workers (Coryell, 2000). Nowadays females work unlike before when they had choices whether to work or not.
