The character of Amiro reveals one thing; resilience. The young boy goes through what many people cannot relate with. For instance, at such a tender age, one is expected to be a dependant not the provider of his needs. Amiro together with his friends face many hardships. For instance, for them to live, they have to do menial jobs. In one occasion, e fight even broke up amongst his peers over recycled garbage which was their source of livelihood. Throughout this time, none of the boys give up.

Amiro, for instance, changes many jobs just to keep him moving. When the film starts, he was illiterate. However, later on he is seen to be reciting letters of the alphabet. Through the life of Amiro, the audience of the film get to see how perseverance and determination are important parts of human life. The resilience that Amiro is admirable given that he is just a young boy. In brief, the film tries to depict the nature of people as having string characters. Consequently, everyone is made to be strong willed by default.

Therefore, no situation should be discouraging; through resilience and determination, any challenge can be overcome. This is what The Runner tries to tell its audience. Education is an important aspect of the modern society. In the film, this comes out through the desire of Amiro to acquire education. At the start, Amiro is portrayed to be an illiterate boy who even preferred foreign magazines to local ones because they had glossy illustrations which he could understand. The reality is that he could not read; consequently, the local magazines which had fewer illustrations were irrelevant to him.

In addition, towards the end of the film, Amiro is seen to be reciting the letters of the alphabet. The insinuation in this case is that education is quite important. It has become part of human culture to get and acquire education. The
