Roles of Health Educator as Compared to Other Health Professionals Introduction to Community Health Yousaf Alqhtani October 22nd, Roles of Health EducatorThe profession of a health educator is similar to the duties and roles played by a teacher. Health educators teach people regarding certain quality and safety behaviors that tend to promote their wellness (Bureau of Labor Statistics, Similar Occupation, 2014). With this concern, the research report intends to compare and contrast the different careers of a health educator in health-related profession.

In this context, health educator has other duties in other related professions including in dietetics, nutrition, epidemiology, and counselling and these duties will be compared in this research. In terms of rationale, it can be affirmed that the aforesaid careers have been taken into concern for comparison. It is done in order to obtain an in-depth understanding about the scope of such careers in the future and attain the predetermined objectives of ‘Healthy people 2020. The academic preparation, certifications and credentialing of the career of nutritionists, as well as dietitians, are primarily based on the completion of the program relating to dietetic techniques.

The program is approved by, an ascribed education institution (Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, 2014). In contrast, the academic preparation, certifications and credentialing of epidemiologists as a career can be ascertained as the completion of certain certificate programs. Such programs are like ‘Fellow of the College of Applied Epidemiology (FCAE) and ‘Member of the College of Applied Epidemiology (MCAE) among others (ieph inc., 2004). Finally, the academic preparation, certifications and credentialing of the career of counsellors is identified to be based on the completion of graduation programs.

Such programs are particularly related with counselling about health-related subject matters (Trustees of the California State University, 2014). The sites of potential employment of the above discussed three careers can be found to be quite similar. In this regard, the sites may fundamentally include government registered clinical institutions and private nursing homes among others. However, the salary range differs amid these three careers. Notably, on average, health educators earn a salary of $58,553 per year (Salary.com, 2014).

Compared to that of nutritionists and dietitians, epidemiologists and counsellors who earn averagely $40,807 (US PayScale, 2014), $65,270 (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2012), and $43,000 (Indeed, 2014), respectively. In terms of importance of community health, the career of Nutritionist as well as dietitians tends to provide advice to other people about leading healthy lifestyle. In comparison, the career of epidemiologist holds the importance of examining and most vitally the reasons for having diseases within individuals.

Conversely, tie significance of the career of counsellors lay in helping people to manage and overcome varied sorts of stresses (Bureau of Labor Statistics, Healthcare, 2014).The objectives of the initiative ‘Healthy People 2020 is ascertained as promoting health. It is done by preserving body weights, aiding patients by lessening the incidence of pessimistic health outcomes and improvising the lives of the people. This is attained by managing various crucial disorders among others (U.S Department of Health and Humans Services, 2014).

Specially mentoring, the selected three careers indicate performing the above-stated functions quite effectively that eventually portray their relation to the objectives of ‘Healthy People 2020. On the other hand, health educators are charged with the responsibility of teaching people about such behaviors promoting wellness. These specialists are supposed to develop and implement strategies that are aimed at improving the health of individuals and communities. Their main work is to collect data on particular health related issues.

They then discuss the result of the data with the concerned populations and communities (Bureau of Labor Statistics, Health Educators and Community Health Workers, 2014). A study conducted by the health educators of the U.S concerning the probability of implementing Genomic Competencies in the context of health endorsement activity can be regarded as an example. The study provided a brief idea about delivering effective and quality community health related practices to the entire U.S community members (Chen, Kwok, & Goodson, 2008).

From the above analysis, it can be affirmed that the learners may opt for the above-discussed careers because of their respective increasing level of scope in this modern day context. This will certainly relate to the career goals of the learners in the form of serving people with effective community health-related practices and establishing themselves in this modern civilized community.ReferencesAcademy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
