Besides, the author identifies overt racial prejudice by political system within the U.S. Although the book do not present thematic approach in unraveling its discourse, the author touches on multiple social components that continue to emerge every other time. Notably, the prejudice based on race and ethnicity. He identifies this as an enemy to personal and national development. As a devout social justice advocate, he engaged political, religious and academician on heated debates in national TVs and through radio presentation on the need to combat negative racial practices.
One of his concern was a slow response by the government while the crisis in the areas believed t be occupied by certain race or class of people. With his multi-gendered and multiracial group, the book records engagement with political figures, entertainers and a wide spectrum of professionals on the thorny issue of racial discrimination. Additionally, the author offers a myriad of the other social challenges that are alive in the U.S that includes power, social stratification, cultural beliefs and the role of gender in social and political development.
Although the book offers an insight to every underlying issue in a systematic approach, the author consistently brings personal recollection of events and incidences that substantiate each claim. Contrary to many authors, Dyson bold step allows him to identify what he calls the "highbrow and lowbrow." His conviction of a classless society drives him to critique both the perceived mighty and the commoners alike. Surprisingly, the book records his encounter with George Bush. Truth to the author personal beliefs, there should be no mighty and all people should be seen and understood as people.
