Family Study - Admission/Application Essay Example

Introduction In my interview, I interviewed my aunt and my elder sister on their perception of toddler development. Although they had different opinions on the same, there were a few similarities in regard to their expectations and societal and cultural standards. My aunt is almost the age of my mother. My sister is older than me with 5 years. In this regard, the two interviewees could be termed as two people belonging to two different generations.Reflection of the interviewsWhen I asked my aunt about her belief in regard to feeding her baby, she argued that prolonged breastfeeding was healthy for the baby and that she was looking forward to breastfeeding him for two years.

Conversely, my sister was equally of the same opinion only that she argued that breastfeeding her baby for over three months would be challenging because of her demanding job. When I asked them about their views in regard to diapering and sleeping, my aunt was of the opinion that these were her own responsibilities and that it was critical to her because she could easily understand her baby’s development. However, my sister was of a different opinion arguing that these were chores to be carried out by a house help.

In fact, she argued that her job cannot allow her to attend to her baby especially in regard to such chores. She even argued that employing a house help was an indispensable thing because it means that she would be creating a job for that person. In regard to cognitive stimulation, my aunt argued that it was her mandate to teach her baby on his cognitive development. She further argued that this would allow her to bring up her baby in the right way as expected by the society. She believes that employing a house help to help in raising her baby would mean that the baby would grow up without essential behaviors.

She went ahead and cited an example of a friend’s children who have antisocial behaviors because of being brought up by house helps. On the other side, my sister believes that the little time she has for her baby was enough to teach her good behaviors. She also argued that the most critical thing is to instruct the house help on the specific behaviors that she should teach her baby. In addition, she argued that it was important to employ somebody who is educated and preferably with knowledge of early childhood development.

ConclusionIt is apparent that much has changed between my parent’s generation and our generation. Due to changes in the way of life, our generation is more preoccupied and has little time for our children. The view of the importance of money and work has replaced the beliefs on the core values that are supposed to be observed when raising a child. That is why my sister is of the view that her job is enough to allow her employ somebody to take care of her baby. However, one thing that is similar to both is that my aunt and my sister hold the view that it was indispensable for their children to grow up in accordance to society expectations of good manners.

The only difference relates to the way of achieving it.
