Speech Introduction Every person communicates in his or her own way but few individuals have mastered the skill of actual effective communication or presenting themselves in front of people or audiences. Communication breakdown during speech presentation occur which lead to disagreements and feelings of anger. In addition, speech is very significant in that it is a message receiving, message sending, an expressive, and a receptive process. Lack of proper speech can lead to misunderstanding. However, it is significant to note that being a great speaker, a person needs to follow and stick to certain directions in order to deliver the message to your audience. Question one: The elements of vocal and Physical in speech It is normal that when people interact, they give and receive wordless signals. The gestures people make during communication send or portray strong messages. What people talk by word of mouth is distinct from what gestures portray. Therefore, the speaker needs to understand that vocal and physical speech is very significant in sending the message to the audiences. The use of physical signs or nonverbal communication has the ability to demonstrate our feelings, thoughts, and can emphasize on our points (Dozier 32). During speech delivery, the speaker needs to make use emblems of emblems since they enable him or her to translate the information to the audience who does not understand the language. It is important to note that emblem is related to sign language than daily body language. For instance, sometime when speaking about Greece mythology, the speaker could hold his or her arm with all fingers sealed in, apart from the second and index fingers, which are wide apart, may signify victory or harmony of the ancient Greeks. Additionally, the speaker needs to use a gesture called illustrator or iconic gesture, when complementing a Greek heroes such as Aristotle and Plato for what they did especially in the field of philosophy and politics. Question 2: Audience When presenting a speech about Greece, the speaker needs to deliver clear information or messages that are matching both in verbal and nonverbal dimension. They have organized ideas or thoughts, pay attention to what he or she want to say and ensure that they win the attention of the audience. It is important for the speaker to focus on public speaking because he or she will be delivering a message to many people. Therefore, the speech will be organized on five aspects, speaker, speech, occasion, audience, and effect (Dozier 46). The speaker should build a suitable speech for distinct audience on distinct occasion or time and for distinct effects. This is because a speaker plays a significant role in public speaking. Therefore, the speaker should plan, prepare, and examine the audience needs before he or she starts addressing people. The speaker’s words should have an influence to the audience and convince their thinking towards him. This kind of communication focuses on having a direct influence to the audience. However, during speech delivery, the speaker should understand several things could hinder him or her from delivering the message. These barriers to effective speech delivery include language, emotional, gender, interpersonal, and cultural barriers. Language barrier can hinder communication in situation where two different people speak different languages. In such a case, it is important to look for common language that both parties understand to avoid patronizing one language. Gender barriers exist where men and women tend to form their ideas and thoughts distinctly because of their gender. The speaker has to address the audience with the knowledge he or she is addressing people of different genders so that they does not favor one gender at the expense of the other. Interpersonal barriers hinder us from reaching out to the other person and expressing our thoughts. It is important to engage with others in order to eliminate interpersonal differences. Emotional barriers can be difficult to overcome. People tend to fear certain words, which makes it hard for them to listen to certain words. In order to avoid emotional barriers, the speaker should choose correct words when addressing people. It is significant to note that distinct cultures whether racial or societal may hinder effective speech delivery if two cultures clash (Dozier 25). .Question three: Importance of being organized during speech During speech, the speaker should be aware of the distinction between a written report and an oral presentation. In oral presentation, the audience has to follow the form by which the speaker presents the information while in a written report, the speaker can skip some parts, take preview, and make conclusion. Therefore, as a speaker, one needs to be well prepared and organized to present his or her message to the audiences in a successful manner. When a speaker is organized, one will be in a position to remain focused on the topic and what they really want to gain. In addition, a person will be able to manage time, become more productive, prioritize the work or important information, and able to control the audience. Question four: Importance of research When giving a speech, it is vital for the speaker to conduct enough research about the topic in order to have sufficient information on what they are going to say. Research before a speech will entail many things. For instance, the speaker needs to gather enough information about the topic, and the audience. Conducting is very helpful to the speaker in the sense that it enables him or her to have confidence and courage while presenting the information before the audience since they have enough evidence and information to back their arguments. For instance, having all relevant information will make the speaker to convince and persuade the audience because he or she will have the ability to cite examples that helps in explaining important points.
