Creating Breast Cancer Awareness among Young Women Creating Breast Cancer Awareness among Young Women Introduction According to reports by the WHO breast cancer is one of the most prevalent illnesses in both the developed and developing countries. It is however treatable if discovered early enough before it gets to a more advanced stage and attacks the rest of the body. The cases have reduced since the year 2010 but more needs to be done if there is a need to reduce the deaths as a result of this form of cancer. Researchers are conducting research on some of the preventive measures and analyzing the genes that are most likely to be attacked and also people at a high risk of suffering from the terminal disease. As indicated earlier breast cancer is treatable if it is diagnosed at an early stage. This purpose of this paper is to .look at the different methods of creating awareness among the members of the community on this disease. Objective The objective of this project is to increase the awareness level of female members of the community and engage as many people as possible to get tested. The main goal is to increase the current levels of women who are aged 20 and above to get tested. The target group is mainly young women who do not have the test as they usually argue that they are either too young or they are feeling fine. Methods The target group for this project is the youths and young women under the age of 25 years and as a result the methods to be used should involve this group (Boyle, 2003). First, due to the lean budget that has been allocated to this project the methods used shall be more involving and will require a lot of effort by all the parties involved. The first method that this project will use is sensitizing the people through volunteers who will be selected and be chosen by the programs director (Baum and Meredith, 1999). The volunteers will be selected according to their age for the volunteers who will be doing the field work. The volunteers are to go round through the country sensitizing the people on the effects and the symptoms of breast cancer. This program is geared towards sensitization and awareness among the young people and encourages them to get tested as early as possible to get a cancer free population. The other volunteers that will be used in this program is the clinical officers and doctors who will be used in the campaigns as we will be having camps that will be used in the testing in every point that the campaign stops. These are the most important volunteers in this campaign as they will be losing and giving their working hours to this project. This project will therefore start by inviting all interested people to give a part in the volunteering work by giving out questionnaires to the willing candidates and as a result help the program directors to select the group of volunteers to be used. Secondly the project will use clinics in many parts that they will stop to sensitize an administer tests free of charge. The clinics which will be run by volunteer clinicians and doctors will also need tents and facilitation to ensure that the camps are well run and available to the people. These campsites will be very effective to the people of the areas where the campsites will be established as they will help the communities to get the tests and sensitize the members of the community. This will require funding for the hiring of the campsite materials and equipment that will be used in the sensitization process. The young volunteers will be setting up the campsites and the doctors will use their expertise to offer advice to be used by the people to sensitize other members of the community. The third method that will be used in the project will be the door to door campaigns in the communities that will be used to take the information to the people. Door to door campaigns will be most effective as they will reach out to everyone in the community with giving them information about breast cancer and its different methods of treatment. Door to door campaigns will be accessed by the young volunteers who will be very effective as by using this method it will be easier to convince the people as the information will be relayed face to face. This method will be very involving for the young volunteers and as a result the volunteers will need to be well equipped with ample information to disseminate to the people. The catering of the meals and refreshments during this campaign will also be essential and the amounts will be important to assess while organizing the project (Swift, 2004). The transportation of the volunteers will also be important in this method and will be essential in assessing and implementing this method. All these values will be considered while using this method and will therefore be essential in implementing this method. The other methods that will be used in creating awareness will be the use of brochures and pamphlets that will be distributed to the members of the community in order to sensitize the people and reach out to their friends and family (Michell, 2010). Pamphlets and brochures will require a lot of funds in order to be effective as the printing and distribution will require a lot of funds. This will be the method that will use the largest amount of funds and will require a lot of information to be given on the papers and as a result consume a lot of money. This can also be used together with t-shirts and caps that will be given to the people and the volunteers to help volunteering. Although these will cost a lot of money it will be effective in the dissemination and relaying the information to the people as it will be seen and accessed by many people in the community. It is also important to organize an event such as a walk or a run that will be used to raise funds for the project. The walk will be used in sensitizing the people and give information to the people and other avenues in the community. The events are very important in the sensitization and creating awareness as there will be a clinic set up in the area to help in the testing of the people gathered at the site. This project will help in the sensitization of the people and if these methods are well handled will help in increasing the level of sensitization of the people. It is important to implement these methods to the letter to improve the level of awareness and I the process eradicate the number of people suffering from breast cancer.
