Ernest Hemingway Contributions to Our World - Admission/Application Essay Example

In this regard, if I were to meet only one person in the world, such a decision would be so difficult to make, and I am more likely to pick on several individuals. However, one person has always been the most intriguing and my personal favorite, his name is Ernest Hemingway. If I could meet anyone in the world, Ernest Hemingway would be that person because there is a lot more that I admire about him.

Ernest Hemingway was a brilliant man with a unique approach towards life in general, and even though his impact was not so much overall world, his contribution toward our country is immeasurable. Surprisingly, Hemingway was just an average person who enjoyed ordinary life and derived happiness from ordinary pleasures, and there was nothing mystical about him. He was a fan-making person and he amused himself with things like fishing, hunting in the African safari, and most of all, Hemingway loved to stay at his various homes around the world while keeping up with his writing. Hemingway wrote many outstanding works of art and one of the books that he has written that I totally love is titled “The Sun Also Rises”.

This book has been my all-time favorite title among those authored by Hemingway, and the reason why I have totally enjoyed it is because of its touching subject matter. Set in the 1920’s post World War II era in Europe, “The Sun Also Rises” gives a detailed account of the “Lost Generation”; this period followed Second World War in the 1920’s European nation immediately. The “Lost Generation” was a period that was characterized by hopelessness and disillusionment, as so many people were distraught and depressed due to the many losses (of both lives and property) that had been incurred during the war.

Ernest Hemingway is so essential to me as an individual and to our lovely nation at large because of his approach to life that saw him help his friends to cope with the post-war trauma, and finally get over their sorrows and depression. Hemingway was convinced that by staying around people who were so depressed, one was more likely to be depressed too; to avoid such depression, he encouraged people to be cheerful and merry. Instead of just moping around and getting depressed, Ernest Hemingway decided to raise the mood of his friends by traveling with them to Paris and Spain for fun.

I admire Hemingway’s approach to life, and I would certainly recommend that people should do the same in such situations in their lives. In my personal life, I have come to appreciate Hemingway’s approach, especially during my darkest moments when I have almost felt like breaking down. Just like Hemingway, I also believe that staying around people who are depressed often leads to one’s own depression eventually; in the event of a tragedy or something like a war, I also feel that if you are constantly in a bad mood, such as depression could instigate much more serious psychological problems. It is for this reason that I have been inspired to court happiness and fun always even in my darkest moments, and this has enabled me to get over my depressing situations.
