This paper will discuss the various constraints that can affect intercultural communication with regards to American culture and the Venezuelan culture. The discussion is based on the comparison of the two cultures as exhibited from my own perspective as an American and that of a friend from Venezuela.
The analysis is based on three main constraints namely cognitive, behavioral and emotional. Cognitive constraints involve the world views from both cultures and how this impact on communication. Behavioral constraints involve an analysis of the rules about behavior from both cultures. Each culture has its own rules as regards behavior and these impacts on both verbal and non-verbal communication. Lastly, it is also a common observation that people from different cultures display their emotions differently while communicating. Other factors that will be brought out are the impact of education, social issues and economic status on intercultural communication.
The subject under comparison is named Rafa from Venezuela. Rafa is a 22-year old from a rich family background in Venezuela and is highly educated. From an analysis of the culture, I noticed that the in the country, the rich families usually dominate the economy of the country and they love discussing on issues that relate mostly to business. Although in the United States, his culture has not been affected too much as an observation of his behavior shows some strict adherence to some of the things they do in Venezuela. Basically, Venezuela as a country has a diverse and complex culture that is influenced by people from different regions who made the country their home (Dinneen 2000). People from Venezuela depict a rich culture integrated in them as it will be shown in the analysis.

...?The face of poverty and oppression is a woman and a child. Women around the world are more alike than we think. They are united by gender and oppression. It is of common knowledge that although some countries are more liberated than the others, still, a form of discrimination between genders unites every woman. Take for instance, in a traditional Muslim country, even if their political, civil and economic rights are not as good as other Western countries, there is unity between women, regardless of nationality. In “Under the Veils of Casablanca”, Laura Fraser took us to the other side of a Muslim woman’s life. Although in public it seems that Western women are separated by tradition, in their private lives, every woman is just... face of...

...and gatherers in this postmodern era. This paper seeks to analyze the Eniomaggot video within the context of stereotypes of gender, race, and/or class This video expounds on the lifestyle of the Jhanai people. However, the video principally focuses on the male community. Seldom does the video feature the female community. The logic behind this conscious omission is still perplexing. As a result of this gender bias, the viewer gets an in-depth comprehension of the responsibilities and the expectations of daily life of the typical male Jhanai. The relative age of the men depicted in this documentary is forty five. This is rather outlandish as it is often the custom, in this modern age, to expect men of...

The part I enjoy most when reading the book is when the author stipulates that: ‘The study of intercultural communication begins as a...

Non-verbal communication The nurse could have used non-verbal communication such as gestures trying to read and ask the patient what the problem was. Facial expressions would also have been helpful and especially if whatever the nurse was asking the patient did not agree with. The strategy even though taking longer to get and pass the message would have been effective in the end to some extent (O’Toole, 2012, pp. 197). The...
