Extract of sample "Personal Code of Ethics"

Personal Ethics There is a correlation between ethics and good morals as both defines the systems and procedures that determines the what is right and what is wrong. The significance of ethics is quite clear in an organization setup where ethics in a code of ethics stipulates the organizational culture and code of behavior as observed in the operations of an organization. Indeed, the code of ethics defines the mode of achieving the purpose and meaning of the organizations goals. However, we equally have the personal ethics that apply to variant individuals. Ideally, adopting personal ethics is a matter of choice or failure to make a choice. Most assuredly is the fact that making a personal choice to ethics requires much thought, information, and the free will to make such a choice while knowing of the resultant consequences. Indeed, personal ethics affects individuals and their society. Ethics should therefore promote our prioritization and achievement of our core values. Ideally, personal ethics may relate to our religion, virtues, morals, and the community we live in. Personal ethics reflect in ones standards of honesty, courtesy, respect, integrity, trust, harmony, truth, justice, and loyalty (Shay Web). More so, personal ethics vary from one person to another and their effects equally vary. Personally, I believe that my ethics are developing as I grow up. I am an honest, responsible, and respectable person. More so, these are my personal choices that define my personality and my morality. Nevertheless, these attributes have grown with time and various factors propagate the development of these ethics. I think that the development of such ethics comes with time and relate to the environment. For example, I can easily remember that initially I was not an honest person until my teacher and parents sought to intervene in my way of life. My teacher taught me on how to remain honest despite the many possibilities that might force me to compromise. At the same time, my parents ensured that I stick to what is ethical as I grew to an adolescent. Hence, the value of honesty developed in me from my teachers and parents with time. In addition, I relate the development of my personal ethics to the environment where I live. I grew in an environment where the society advocated for the respect of the elderly, law, and leaders. As such, with time I developed this virtue and have since adopted it. Therefore, by interacting with peers and environment that promotes these virtues, it was easier for me to choose them as my environment promoted them. Indeed my family, environment, and even religion play a very noble role in fostering the development of my personal ethics. They do this in various ways that include influencing my decisions. Both my parents and environment influence my choice on personal ethics. Indeed, my parents strive to bring me up and through adolescent using the correct moral standards. Hence, I tend to follow their proposals to the letter and thus influencing my choice on personal ethics. At the same breadth, I seek to adjust myself to the current location in order to guarantee effective interrelations with my immediate society. Additionally, religion plays a noble role in developing my personal choices. My religion is Islam and so my parents and I subscribe to Muslim faith. Ideally, the Muslim religion influences the development of my personal ethics in that I make personal choices that comply with the standards of my religion. For example, my Muslim religion teaches me to be respectful, trustworthy, and others. As such, the Muslim virtues became part of my personal ethics. For example, when I was growing up, my parents would make sure that I acquaint myself with the Muslim teachings as taught by the priests. With time, I came to realize that actually all Muslims follow the same teachings and so am I chose to follow the teachings with much concern on harmony, respect, and honesty. The right knowledge on the benefits and penalties attached to any violation informed my choice to personal ethics. Muslim teachings thereby form the basis of my personal ethics and act as a constant reminder of how I am supposed to behave. At the same time, my school environment plays a major role in determining my personal ethics. Indeed, there is a lot of peer pressure that affects almost all the adolescents in school. My colleagues and I seem to make similar personal ethics out of peer pressure. Initially, I was friend to group of students who were very rude and irresponsible. AS a result, I also adopted those virtues until I changed my friends who taught me to be courteous and promote honesty. Indeed, my former friends were dishonest even in school where they conspired to pass exams. However, when the school’s administration caught up with us, a severe punishment followed hence encouraging me to review my personal ethics. Furthermore, my personal ethics relate to the business world, which is very competitive and dynamic. Indeed, in Dubai where I come from, most residents specialize in business. My parents have a small food store that I operate while on holiday. In a business, the virtues of honesty, trustworthiness, fairness, and courtesy are supreme in giving feedbacks to customers, stating the selling price, among other market principles. As such, I use my honesty and courtesy to deal with customers hence improving service to the customers and promote sales. It takes my honesty to advise the customers on certain enquiries, give back change, and selling at standard prices. In a market with no honest sellers, customers would stand to be conned, buying the wrong and fake products. Hence, it is significant to define my personal ethics for me to become valuable in my future business career. This is so because personal ethics defines a person and certain ethics cannot mix with the code of ethics in an organization. The definition of my personal ethics would help in relating me to my future business career where an analysis should determine the compatibility of ethics and future hopes. The suitability of my personal ethics plays a big role in ascertaining the attainment of my business aspirations. Where a change in the personal ethics is necessary, a review can take place to guarantee the realization of my dreams. Personal ethics like honesty, courtesy, respect, trustworthiness, and fairness are fundamental in a business environment. In conclusion, I find that personal ethics affect so many areas in an individual’s life and that of their immediate society. Most significant is the fact that personal ethics is a matter of individual’s choice that may draw considerable influence from one’s religion, family, and environment that affect the development of personal ethics. Assuredly, personal ethics can relate to the business world where they are largely applicable. Works Cited Shay, Laura. Personal Code of Ethics.
