Darwin’s Theory of Evolution challenged this that there was no such thing as creation but rather an evolution of the species that involves natural selection or survival of the fittest.  From that single atom in a pond until life developed to what we know of it today eliminating in the process those who are not fit survive. Above all, it would be too dangerous to float the idea during Darwin’s time that man started as an Ape and only became a man due to evolution.  That idea would surely catch the ire of the powers that be which is the Church guaranteeing the stake to those who will ally with Darwin which explains nobody except Darwin pursued the Theory of Evolution.
