Researchers propose that mental toughness explain the process of physically talented athletes becoming formidable athletes. Others have warned against the over-emphasis concerning the significance of psychological constructs. This is when performance in sports is likely down to deliberate practice. It also relates to the athletes possessing appropriate combination of psychological, physiological, and anatomical skills. There have been the lack of the conceptual clarity surrounding mental toughness; this appears to have significant progress.

There are also numerous agreement related to the notable characteristics of the construct. However, there have been different approaches in the research having both quantitative and qualitative methods. There are also numerous key components consistently reported. It also concerns the commitment, self-belief, self-motivation, challenges and thriving on competition. This retains the psychological control under pressure, perseverance resilience, and concentration (Bull, Shambrook, James & Brooks, 2005, 209-227).

There are athletes who are mentally better at the psychologically coping with various demanding situations. Therefore, it is reasonable to assume that the mentally tough athletes cope better with the demanding circumstances. However, it is vivid that description of the nature of numerous mental toughness researches has not permitted proposition for satisfactorily testing. There are recent qualitative studies attempting to establish the relevant knowledge related to an emerging area.

This worked essentially with replicated finding of previous research. There are over-emphasis related to the studying of the elite and with the assumption of super-elite like gold medalists being more mentally tough compared to the silver medalists.
