Children needs and their behavior Children usually behave in certain a manner, to ensure that their needs are met. These clearly explain that misbehaving in children is due to satisfying their unmet needs. Behaviors like crying, destroying property and lying are attributed by lack of satisfaction to their needs. Children will always behave according to how their needs are accomplished. Children are in a state where they do not know how to express themselves. When needs are unmet they will always behave in an inappropriate manner. Children are in no position, to point out and articulate clearly, what they need. They usually express their needs through behavior (Hutchison 2011).
Parents usually tend to judge children needs to be only sleep and hunger. Assuming only these needs exist in a child is terribly wrong. Children are affected equally with needs associated with emotions. When the basic and emotional needs are not met a child will misbehave to express their disappointments. Parents should have a clear comprehension of the needs of children expressed through misbehaving. Through understanding children needs, parents will be able to respond accordingly to children needs. The response is straightforward; meet the child needs and not through disciplinary actions or punishments. Children possess the human nature of misbehaving to express their needs (Zastrow and Krist-Ashman, 2010).
Love is a vital need to children. Through love, a child is able to know and measure how much they are appreciated and connected with their parents. Communication is a fundamental aspect when it comes to expressing love in children. Therefore, when parents communicate with their children on a daily basis the children feel loved. Their chances of misbehaving; therefore become minimal. Existence of love between parents and their children forces the children to behave and act in a good manner, to please their parents. Therefore, with love a child will always be obedient and respectful towards parents (Hutchison, 2011).
Reassurance is also a significant child’s need. When the children are reassured of love and care, they behave accordingly, and they avoid conflicts with their parents. Children always wish to be brought up in a peaceful environment; therefore, they try hard to avoid conflicts and wrangles in the family. In times of conflicts, parents need to inform their children accordingly. For instance, when a couple decides to divorce they need to inform their children the reasons for divorcing. This will save the children from emotional distress. When the actions of the divorce proceedings are not well explained, the children are likely to live in denial, which result to misbehaving. Child behavior might be attributed to be a burden and not have the success feeling (Zastrow and Krist-Ashman, 2010).
Child should always be treated with a lot of respect. Children need to be treated with respect from the parents even when they are disagreeing. Showing respect to the child makes the child behave with a lot of respect towards the parents. Child needs to be treated with respect and not with advice. The best response to the child need is by telling them either okay or normal. Arguing with children feelings is always wrong. When no respect exist children will always back off and become secretive with their issues. This results to closing the openness relationship with children (Zastrow and Krist-Ashman, 2010).
Teachers need to know the weakness and strengths of children. This makes them plan accordingly to the lessons to ensure all children are involved in the learning lessons. Teachers need to be aware that every child deserves the right to education. Therefore, by understanding a child’s unmet needs teachers will have the ability to meet the needs of the children. Teachers should seek support from people in the community in meeting children needs (Hatch, 2005). Existence of unity from the society will assist in meeting the child’s unmet demands. The teachers need to incorporate parents, colleagues and other professionals to ensure children needs are fulfilled.
