Crime and Society s Introduction Since the existence of man on the planet, the rationale of man’s unethical destructive behavior has been one of the major challenges facing the security institutions. This unacceptable harmful social behavior of the individuals is regarded as the criminal behavior. Society is amalgamating of many living beings, good or bad. It is always necessary to discuss unsocial behavior in correlation with the social setup of the living beings. Man himself has been responsible for the devastation of the societal ecosystem of the areas where he lives, eats and socializes. Generally, crime is defined as the activity involving harm to the society. The dimensions of the crimes are widespread throughout the society (Albanese, 2002 ). There is no single explanation to why the rate of crimes is rising day by day and that why the books and institutions of justice have failed to address the opportunity and the facilitating factors of crimes with respect to the behavioral uplift of the individuals. Not only the areas with a low intensity of social and financial individuals are notorious but the high society members have also been originated to be occupied in at least some of the criminal activities if not all. In this paper, I will be highlighting the main issues in my selected areas of study followed by the steps taken to change or improve the unwanted outcomes. My study and explanations are based on the following thesis statement. Thesis Statement “Biological and psychological factors positively correlate with the dimensions of crimes in a highly specialized environment and are directly proportional to the opportunities and factors facilitating the rates of these criminal activities.” Explanation Starting off with the dimensions of the crimes, we see that the major dimensions that are visible when we study the rate of criminal activities in any specific place are: Age, Gender and Race Around the world, in many years that have passed, it has been observed that the rate of crimes is most commonly based upon the fact that the people inhabiting a certain area get influenced by the behaviors of their significant others. The definitional issues relating to the age, gender and race are widespread. Blue-collar crimes and that of juvenile crimes usually fall in the category of age dimension. These are the rational street crimes including the shoplifting, kidnapping, rape and vandalism. These crimes usually do not get a mature backup. Various studies indicate that there is more of the under-aged society members involved in such crimes as compared to bigger members (Flowers, 2003 ). Those kids who are involved in criminal activities because of any social reason, when caught and released with a minor punishment are most likely to go back into the same consequent action time and again. Similarly there are those individuals or the groups of individuals who are convicted of white-collar crimes. These crimes have been reported to be based on gender as well as the racial differences. World over, there has been a justice system more lenient for ladies and minorities. Therefore in the environment where there is elasticity towards severe action, the society is more likely to end up in becoming a house of unsocial activities (George F. Cole, 2007 ). Crimes are mostly based on the biological and psychological behavior of the social animals. There have been many supportive researches that have been cooperative in developing an understanding as to how the criminal activities are ignited by the mental status of the individuals. However, the biological and psychological behavioral crimes are backed by the theories supporting the fact that the crimes are based on such mental and physical conditions that can be treated. A lower grade person born in a highly competitive environment is most likely to commit crimes in order to secure his survival. If there is no social support for status uplift, the individuals find inappropriate ways to address their social needs. The supportive theories also agree that if there is even a little room for the treatment of physical and mental drawbacks, the criminal activities are more likely to be reduced effectively (Albanese, 2002 ). Similarly, there are factors and opportunities contributing to facilitate criminal social behaviors. The biggest and the most commonly contributing factor in the initiation of crimes is the use of drugs and alcohol. The criminals are often derived to perform unsocial practices when they have been driven senseless through lots of drug dosage and alcohol. Drugs are found to be triggering agents for adrenaline in the body and alcohol decreases operational speed of the body’s nervous system. These trigger the instincts of the body towards unethical activities to fulfill the desires that arouse in the body. Furthermore, there is also an issue of routine and repeated criminal activities that inspire and motivate the onlookers to try and enjoy doing what they perceive to be something power sizing their role in the society (Hagan, 2010 ). World over, there is a system of justice to control and eliminate the element of crimes to a minimum level in order to create a healthy and peaceful society. The upper class or the ruling class as we call it uses the constitutional support and criminal justice system to address the social problem of crimes in the society. Crime is explained and comprehended to be the key to overcome the resistance of the use of power by the upper class individuals in order to protect the low grade citizenship. It can be regarded as a lame explanation to identify one’s own social status. Cesare Lombroso, a famous criminologist carried out a number of investigations on the post Mortimer bodies of many criminals and gave a surprising finding that the bodies of the criminals were prominently different from the bodies of the non-criminals. He supported his findings by addressing that the physical make up of the bodies of criminals was more powerful and strong than that of the normal social beings. His report consisted of abnormal development of jaws and skull and some other physical differences in the bodies. This indicates that the biological component is severely involved in determining one’s course of criminal action in life (Shepard, 2004 ). Capitalism is the origin of criminal behavior. When the low grade citizens start to think and believe that the needs of their mere existence are being ignored by the high class society individuals, they design their behaviors towards violence in a way which further waters the fertile grounds of criminal records. They feel a need to dominate the ruling class even if it is at the expense of their inappreciable activities. As a matter of fact, we must see that there is no distinction between the urbanized and under developed countries when it comes to crime stories. The United States of America is stuck in one of the biggest circle of juvenile crimes. The state is highly under the un-situational criminal activities that foster the learning for prevention. During the last five years, there has been much activity to increase the control of the security and the legal bodies to monitor and eliminate the increasing practices of the juveniles. There has been a revival in the clauses of the constitution to make it effective in this regard. When it comes to emergent countries, there is a elongated list of the dimensional and non-dimensional crimes. Many third world countries are considered to be the producers of the criminals (Hagan, 2010 ). But a broader perspective is in the favor of the truth that there is no precise area that has to be the triggering factor but the biological and psychological uplift is the reason why many people out of the normal individuals develop an orientation towards crimes. Most importantly for kids when they are living in an atmosphere in which there is a number of extent of criminal activity prevailing, the kids a very much vulnerable to learning crimes through repeated demonstrations. This case has happened in many countries but it has been most spoken of in Mexico. Mexico is the land of labor and inhabits a lot of population that falls into the vicious circle of poverty. The kids here have been observed to adopt criminal behavior through repeated activities. The future of Mexico and many other places like this has been jeopardized in the hands of these young builders who are vigorously oriented towards unfruitful criminal activities (Shepard, 2004 ). An enhancement in the police force emerge to have no major effect on the definite rate of violent crime and a approximately balanced negative effect on the actual rate of crime. Crime rates are strongly affected by monetary conditions. For example, an increase in per capita earnings appears to decrease both violent and property crime rates by a approximately impartial amount. Crime rates are also exaggerated by demographic and cultural circumstances. For instance, the aggressive crime rate increases with the contribution of births by single parent. It is not just others who are negatively affected by criminals. The wrong doers themselves lose ground economically. A large segment of natives charged with illegal activity are somewhat young. Their criminal behavior troubles them in numerous ways. They may expend time imprisoned when they could have been gaining employment knowledge. Their criminal record may obstruct them in obtaining future employment. They build up attitudes and habits that are damaging to involvement in the workplace (Siegel, 2011 ). For these reasons many scandalous condemn themselves to poor quality of life which eventually leads to poverty. Just as all people are better off in a civilization where a large portion of people are more knowledgeable and more creative, all individuals in a crime-infested region become worse off than they otherwise would be. When we have discussed much about crime, the time has come to demand a solution to this ever increasing threat of social destruction. The issue has been raised up to the level of extreme attention. It is argued by many researchers that there are solutions to the problem o crimes and those are indeed the workable solutions if and only if there is a proper course of actions designed on the basis of effective law and order. Starting with the individual level of organization and decency, we must believe that there is a room for development of everyone if there is a visible way shown to the people who have lost their social values (Steven E. Barkan, 2011 ). Crime prevention through environmental design is a concept that supports the argument. The environment is a merge of all the good and the bad components of the society. We cannot eliminate or destroy the people from their roots but we can design the environment over easy and applicable justified actions. The most important of all to control crimes is to eliminate or minimize the rate of juvenile crimes. When the youth of a country, a city or a town is educated and foretold of the outcomes of this dreadful behavior, they are sure to adopt the ways and means which may make them a valuable member of the society. Then comes the white collar crimes. White collar crimes are the outcome of unjust distribution of authority and money. If the system is justified towards rewards and payments in the working members of the society, there is a possibility that the rate of the white collar crimes can be reduced. A proper social setup, uplifting the living standard of the people and assuring them their dignified place in the society is a valuable step towards creating a crime free society and building a strong hold of responsible citizens of a flourishing society (Hagan, 2010 ). The reason of penalty is to deject a person from committing a crime. Punishment is thought to make criminal behavior less striking and more dangerous. Incarceration and loss of income is a major adversity to many people. Another way of manipulating selection is to make crime more complicated or to lessen the opportunities. This can be made by better illumination, locking bars on auto navigation wheels, the existence of guard dogs, or high technology development such as defense systems and photographs on credit cards, by rising the number of police officers on the streets. A transformation in a citys police force, though, is usually tied to its economic physical condition. Normally as joblessness rises, city revenues reduce because fewer people are paying taxes. This cause curtail in city services together with the police force. So a increase in-criminal activity may not be owing to fewer police, but relatively rising unemployment (Siegel, 2011 ). Conclusion The story of crimes and criminals is as old as the man himself. Since, the life started a need and desire aroused in the native social animals to dominate the others. This obviously gave rise to unethical means of obtaining the desired which was not possible otherwise. Although there have been many reasons that support the facts, it is obvious through the studies shown in the above discussion that there actually exists a positive relationship between the three components of crimes; dimensions of crimes, biological and psychological components and the opportunities and factors contributing to increase the rate of criminal activities. Human beings always tend to follow their surroundings for the reason to design their own course of action. Learning to experience is easier when it comes to doing big in small amount of time. The similar is the case with criminal behaviors. Crime and society go side by side. If there is society, there are people, when there are people there are crimes. But this is a noteworthy fact that the two poles might be composite, might be the reflections of one another and treating one component automatically treats the other. If the ways and means are adopted to reshape the society, it can be very easy to eliminate the causes responsible for the defiant behaviors of the people. Alternatively, when it comes to treating crimes, the major change should be brought in the justice system. This will ensure proper rewards and punishments that will lure and prohibit the actions of the specific class of people.
