ment of Goals and Objectives There are times when one realizes that a chosen career does not serve the best interest of one’s personal and professional needs. This realization came within the midst of my working as a medical technologist in the Blood Bank department of the Holy Cross Hospital. I recognized that the responsibilities of a medical technologist focus on working behind the scenes, generating the critical data that physicians and healthcare practitioners use to make their diagnoses.

Within this working environment, upon observing and collaborating with other health care professionals, it eventually dawned on me that the profession I would like to delve into is that of a career as a nurse. I find myself very attracted to the challenges and diversity of the nursing profession, particularly the direct responsibility in the delivery of patient care. I envision myself that by being a nurse, I would be given various opportunities to help others on a more personal level to address their illnesses with the ultimate aim of returning to active and rewarding lives.

I love to learn and pursue this career path as it offers endless opportunities to advance my knowledge on the delivery of health care to patients on a more personalized perspective. In searching for the academic institution that is deemed most effective in fulfilling my personal and professional goal, I finally found the University of Maryland as perfect for me. A glimpse of the University’s Mission Statement confirms my decision to apply for admission due to its commitment to “advance knowledge, provide outstanding and innovative instruction, and nourish a climate of intellectual growth in a broad range of academic disciplines and interdisciplinary fields” (University of Maryland 1).

Likewise, the nursing program at University of Maryland offers part-time study which will enable me to keep my full time job at the hospital and concurrently, I can fulfill my dream of becoming a nurse. My educational experience has been vast and diverse ranging from a baccalaureate degree from Thailand and my master’s degree and associated degree from United States. Since past educational programs already contain modules and courses within the health care setting, I believe that these provided ample theoretical background to prepare oneself for the nursing program at University of Maryland.

After having acknowledged that my prerequisites for the nursing program have not been aptly completed, I intend to register all of those classes in this spring and summer semester 2012 to adhere to all the requirements before the nursing program starts. I hereby eventually plan to pursue the RN-Master of Science (RN-MS) option which would accord me with the opportunity to earn the degree in nursing and at the same time, an MS degree in Health Services Leadership and Management which would be instrumental in assisting me to become a nurse manager within the health care setting.

The ability of the University of Maryland to provide a holistic and multidimensional approach to learning with a part-time option is most appropriate for my personal and professional goals. I am confident that through your support and evaluation of my professional credentials, my dream to become a nurse would someday be fulfilled.Works CitedUniversity of Maryland.
