The workforce that this organization has employed is very diverse and strong. It makes up to over 12,700 employees, of whom 11,120 are agents assigned to patrol over 6,000 miles of Americas land borders. The budget assigned for the well-functioning of this organization is also very high; it is about 1.24 billion dollars and is enough for the 21 offices that works under this body. There is another organization that deals with the trade policies in the United States. It is known as The Office of International Trade (OT).

Fabrication of trade policy, program development, and compliance measurement are the functions of this organization. All trade policies are governed by this body, including a proper check on the trade items, very strict punishments for those who do not abide by the proper laws and regulations as laid down in the trade policies. It also deals with smuggling and the essence of goods being transferred though the borders. With collaboration from other countries and their agencies, it tries to maintain high standards for the U.S. and also keep a strict eye on all the food items and agricultural products, whether they are fit for human consumption and whether they are pure or contaminated.

It also has very structured shipments and transportation laws. Also, a very honest audit is a program that is employed in order for getting response to accusations against commercial fraud. It is also made sure that all countries are fully aware of the export-import laws. Other regulations also make CBP a very competent and well organized body. Following the attacks of September 11th, there took place a vast change in the perception about the Arab and Muslim countries and hence laws about border patrol and terrorism changed drastically.

People scrutinize the southern border of the United States which it shares with Mexico. And following 9/11,
