Number Interview Response The two supervisors that are interviewed are one from the manufacturing organization and one from the service related organization. First InterviewHow did you become a supervisor, were you promoted from a non-supervisory or did you come from straight academics? The manufacturing organization was at a non-supervisory level at the firm. He used to be an assistant of the supervisor and therefore was given instructions of how to handle things. After time duration of one year he got promoted to the supervisory level of the firm.

What do you see as the primary satisfaction/rewards of being a supervisor or manager? The primary satisfaction reward for being a supervisor is that empowerment is given to conduct the tasks under the designation and this makes a person more responsible and respectable by his or her subordinates. What do you see as the negative aspects? The negative aspect is that the level of accountability upwards becomes more crucial. Any mistakes done by the subordinates for the work may be held accountable with the supervisor.

What do you consider the primary differences in being a supervisor as compared to an employee/subordinate? The primary difference between a supervisor and a subordinate is that the supervisor delegate tasks to lower level and the subordinates have to complete that task. Subordinates cannot delegate tasks whereas supervisors can. Are there any techniques that you use in your supervision that are particularly helpful? Supervision techniques that are used at work are to delegate tasks according to the capability of the subordinate and also according to the skills and abilities results in the work done according to requirements.

Have you continued to develop your supervisory skills/and if so what do you do? Supervisory skills are constantly developed to ensure a healthy and hardworking environment at work. By taking sessions of improving supervision skills, more knowledge and tactics are learned of becoming a successful supervisor. How do you reward your employees at the supervisory level? The supervisor said that he rewarded his employees by giving them acknowledging their hard work and performance in front of the entire team.

This reward boosted the morale level of the employees immensely. Second InterviewHow did you become a supervisor, were you promoted from a non-supervisory or did you come from straight academics? The service organization supervisor stated that he joined his position straight from academics. This supervisory job was his first job after completing his education. He had applied to the job advertisement for this designation and got the job then.What do you see as the primary satisfaction/rewards of being a supervisor or manager?

The primary satisfaction that is there at the supervisory level is that you have the authority to take decisions related in your vicinity. Things are controlled the way you want to control them in your division. What do you see as the negative aspects? The negative aspects are that subordinates at times think that the supervisor shows biasness towards some employees. Subordinates find it hard to accept that the supervisor treats everyone equally and this gets quite difficult at times for the supervisor to deal with such issues.

What do you consider the primary differences in being a supervisor as compared to an employee/subordinate? The primary difference is that supervisor can control and take decisions according to the situation and subordinates do not have the authority to take any decisions. Their job is just to carry out the tasks that have been assigned to them. Are there any techniques that you use in your supervision that are particularly helpful? The techniques that are highly helpful while supervising are the observation method being implied by the supervisor.

The observation method allows to monitor the progress and performance of the employees at work and this allows to decide the promotions and bonuses for employees easily.Have you continued to develop your supervisory skills/and if so what do you do? Supervisor skills are developed by adapting and staying touch with the latest supervisory practices so that successful results can be obtained from supervision. How do you reward your employees at the supervisory level? Employees are rewarded by empowering them with some authority related to their work in some cases when they perform exceptionally well and have gained the element of mutual trust and cooperation between the supervisor and employee.
