Geography My selected country is India in Asia, which is a developing country. Physical Feature India, a secular and democratic country is made up of 28 states and seven union territories. States have their own elected governments while union territories are governed by a president through an appointed administrator or governor. The West and south parts are surrounded by sea. It covers an area of 3,287,263 sq. km, extending from the Himalayas of the north to the entire forests of the south. It is located in the northern hemisphere between longitudes 68° 7 and 97° 25 east and latitudes 8° 4 and 37° 6 north.

It measures about 2,933 km from east to west between the extreme longitudes and about 3,214 km from north to south between the extreme latitudes. India's climate is influenced by mainly the southwest winds. The southwest monsoon brings most of the rainfall during the year in the country. In the months of summer, the temperature rises up to 45 degrees centigrade during the day. In the winter, it falls to as low as 1 to 8 degrees centigrade in the night. The intensity of the summer season causes rain in plains of the India. The rainfall varies from region to region and it is found to be between 500 mm to 1500 mm except desert of Rajasthan and Kutch where precipitation usually remains less than 250 mm. India is either the world leader or the second-largest producer of eight top crops. India is the world leader in the production of bananas, mangoes, and spices which are an important part of Indian meals. 7 percent over the previous year. Reasons for UnderdevelopmentThe key reason for India remaining underdeveloped has been stating policies that were followed for more than 40 years after independence. India followed socialistic policies of restricting private investment in major sectors for many years. Indian GDP growth rate never increased beyond 4 percent in the first 40 years after independence. Restricted capital flow was the reason for limited growth. Post reform, however, India is growing at the rate of 8 percent and above putting it now in the big league.

It has enormous possibilities for growth given its large population base. With this rate of growth, it will catapult into one of the largest economies of the world in the next two decades.
