MSC Business Analytics and Consulting: Personal ment The business world has changed over the last decade with a lot of focus being given to globalization. This I have learnt from my keenness in studying the performance of various multinational companies and proactive small businesses. I have continuously been asking myself the reason behind the success and failures of so many companies. I did not gain much insight into the happenings of the business world until I once got hold of a book that comprehensively dealt with the subject of business analytics during the time I was taking by bachelors. The book authored by Davenport and Harris was entitled Competing on Analytics: The New Science of Winning. Henceforth, I developed great interest in the subject appreciating my bias towards statistics and the interpretation of data. After giving serious thoughts to my strengths, weaknesses, and interests, I realized that nothing captivated me in books than understanding how managers make decisions based on the facts that they obtain after analyzing raw data collected from the field. It is for this very reason that I wish to augment my knowledge in Manufacturing Engineering and Management with a Msc. in Business Analytics and Consulting at Warwick Business School. My training in Manufacturing Engineering and Management in the University of Nottingham equipped me with technical skills inn various areas of analysis. Some of the units I did during my studies include differential equations, calculus and statistics. I am also well equipped with practical skills in machine and assembly language programming. I also majored in Industrial Engineering at the Thammasat University where I learnt a wide range of courses that mainly dealt with solving technical and business oriented problems. I finally managed to maintain a GPA of 3.25 at the latter university, a feat which has given me a lot of confidence when it comes to furthering my education and venturing into practice. I have gained a lot of experience that will help me in achieving the goal of becoming a better engineer cum business analyzer. One of the skills I learnt is public speaking. I developed a lot of interest when I realized that for one to be a good manager, he/she should be able to communicate effectively with the masses. No wonder I got elected as one of the members of the Thammasat University Student Council. Furthermore, learning an additional language has been in my interest for a long time. I appreciate that Japan is advanced technologically, much regard being directed at social well being. I learnt a lot about the Japanese culture and language and have since mastered the art of communicating to members of the Japanese community. In addition to the above mentioned experiences, I have gained a lot of insight in the management of organizations having worked as headmaster of various clubs including the math club of Satriwithaya School, art club of Satriwithaya School as well as Joining the program Alternative math camp. Based on these and other experiences, I have learnt to work well as an individual and in a team. My attitude toward teamwork has changed significantly and in stead of being self minded I am now service minded and always take responsibility for each and every of my actions. One of the greatest achievements I ever have had in life is coming up with a program that can be applied in practice. my final year project is dedicated to the development of a program that could simulate industrial processes. The project, done using arena programming language, is bound to be great tool for the business analytic. The program can help with the analysis of efficiency with respect to production lines and the overall management of the company. Yet again, I participated in developing a business plan as an intern in the Thai Natural Rubber Company. Taking a course in Business Analytics no doubt requires one to be apt in solving mathematical problems. I have earned a number of awards related to exceptional performance in mathematics in various institutions. I have also held different reputable positions in various institutions owing to my public speaking skills and high performance generally. The secret behind my success in life is maintaining focus and striving to achieve small goals within specified periods of time. I have my mind set towards achieving success as a prospective business manager by understanding the concepts that are applied in business analytics. I have also learnt to be responsible in terms of time management, have a positive attitude towards life, and can work well under pressure. MSA Management Science (Decision sciences): Personal Statement Life is full of situations that demand sound decision making. I have heard it before that one’s life is a factor of the decisions that they make. My goal in life has always been to live a fruitful life that is based on sound decision making. As a prospective manufacturing engineer and manager, I really appreciate the importance of operations research to the success of the organization. In the manufacturing sector, the managers and technicians always have to make decisions pertaining to logistics, queuing, profit maximization and minimization of losses, just to mention a few. My desire to be considered an excellent performer has continuously driven me toward wanting to know more about how high level decisions are often made. The field of operations research demands aptitude in tackling mathematical problems, an interest and skill that I have possessed since my days in elementary school. I have a strong GPA and have leadership and management skills gained in the course of my studies and working period. Furthermore, my grades in business and engineering related courses have been quite impressive. I am also knowledgeable in computer applications including using Microsoft Office, 3DMax, C program and pro-engineering. In the course of my training as a manufacturing engineer in University of Nottingham, I learnt a lot of courses that are related to mathematical analysis and technical problem solving. Some of the courses I undertook include calculus, statistics and differential equations. I also majored in Industrial engineering at the Thammasat University where I attained a final grade of 3.25 GPA. Experience is something that cannot be undervalued in every aspect of life. In the course of my training and practice, I have experienced a lot with regard to problem solving. I have been elected as a Member of Student Council at the Thammasat University at which time I learnt how to advocate for students’ welfare in the learning institution. I have also acted as a patron to a number of student organizations including the math club, Satriwithaya School, art club, Satriwithaya School; as well as the Joining the Program Alternative Math Camp. In the course of my work in various capacities in the various organizations that I have worked for, I have experienced several challenges. Some of these challenges needed the intervention of more experienced people and this is partly how I got to learn how to handle people and solve problems with confidence. Yet again, I have learnt to be more accommodating as I have realized that it is valuable to have a service minded attitude as opposed to one that is egocentric. My final year project involved the development of a program that could simulate business processes. The program for me was a major leap in the right direction considering that decision making is core to the survival of the business. The development of the project was actually motivated by the need to make good decisions at the business and corporate levels. Computer software is useful and powerful when it comes to solving some of the problems experience by business people and managers. In the course of coming up with such a powerful project, I had to rely on other people as they had to help me make sound decisions. On the other hand, I also had to make decisions that spelled clearly the success or failure of the project. It is almost certain that the application of my project proposal when put into practice, can lead to the more efficient running of businesses. In order to gain valuable skills that will enable me achieve my goal of becoming an excellent engineer cum manager, I need to learn how to make sound decisions. This is the very essence behind my desire to pursue a masters degree in decision making/operations research. Following my discussions with a family friend who is a budding manager, I have come to appreciate the importance of taking theoretical classes in operations management. I intend to expend a lot of my energies studying the theories behind decision making and how these theories are applied in real life, hopefully in LSE. I also purpose to make a working plan to ensure that my time is well spent in achieving my educational goals. Since life is not all work and no play, I shall take time to engage in games that are mentally challenging such as chess, scrabble and monopoly.
