There are many areas within thehealth care that are options for career placement or advancement. Research different fields within the industry, such as phamacuetical/drug, health information systems, and long-term care/gerontology, and fill in each box to contain information regarding the health care industry. There is an example that is already started to help with the process, but ensure you include adequate information to support your findings.

Use a minimum of three references to support your information.This assignment is due in Week Three.IndustryCareer ExplanationIndustry ExamplesRole of Health Care PersonnelManufacturing (Equipment/Supplies)Example:Health Care manufacturing deals with the making of consumer products that help individuals deal with health care issues. If it looks as if there is a market big enough to make a profitable product, the product is unique in the market and the product can be protected (via patenting or some other means) then businesses are commonly encouraged to dive into the expensive product development phase.

Example:- Bandages, braces, IV tubing, hospital beds, wheelchairs- Consumer health care productsExample:Health Care personnel can move into this industry to satisfy a need within health care organizations. This would deal more with products than patient care or administration. Pharmaceutical/Drug Pharmaceutical/ Drug Industry is mainly responsible for developing, producing and marketing drugs that have been approved by the health authorities or governing agencies McGuire et.al, 2007) These drugs are mainly intended for medicinal purposes.

Pharmaceutical companies can sell generic or branded medications. However, distribution and selling of such medicines are subject to variety of laws since there are issues regarding patenting, testing and marketing of drugs. The government is very strict in monitoring the pharmaceutical industry since the health of the general public is at stake.Medicines that manage or control various cardiovascular conditions , respiratory conditions and gastro intestinal disordersVaccines for human papilloma virus ( cervical cancer ) and vaccine for FluIV solution  includes intravenous immunoglobulin and propofol, dextroseOver the counter medications such as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents(NSAIDS), painkillersHerbal products and supplementsvitaminsHealth care personnel can be employed by pharmaceutical companies as medical technologists, chemists, or researchers.

Usually, medical and sales representatives are also needed by this industry. Biotechnology researchers are in demand in this industry as well as laboratory assistants.Health Information SystemsHealth Information Systems falls under the category of Health Informatics. It is a multi-disciplinary approach wherein computer science is integrated in health care services. A good health information system integrates “administrative files, enrollment files, clinical information, surveys and other data” (McGlynn,1998).

Companies that offer Health Information Systems provide software services as well as database systems that can help health professionals make accurate decisions about patients. Some of the services provided by HIS are Health Information Management, dictation and transcription, document management and imaging, case management, revenue cycle management, and performance improvement. Health Information Systems enhances patient care and can integrate third party options with other health information systems.

There are also private non-profit organizations that contribute in developing health information systems.- HIMSS not-for-profit organization that provides information technology (IT) and management systems for the betterment of healthcare (himms.org)- 3M Health Information system ( private company)Healthcare personnel can move into this industry if they have adequate background, training and experience in Information systems. Database management skills, programming, and technical support skills are highly valued in this industry.

Sales product specialists are also needed to promote the health information systems to potential clients.Long-Term Care/GerontologyLong term care deals with providing different type of services that assists medical and non-medical needs of individuals diagnosed with a chronic illness or disability ( medicare.gov). These people are unable to assist themselves for a long period of time. Typically, long term care is extended to the elderly population who needs assistance in normal daily tasks as simple as bathing, dressing, and using the bathroom since they are most likely debilitated.

Long term care can be provided in different settings: home, nursing home or community.-Nursing homes-Supportive Housing- Retirement Homes -Home and Community Support Services A. Visiting Professional Health ServicesB. Personal Care and SupportC. HomemakingD. Community Support ServicesHealth care personnel such as doctors, nurses, physical therapists and caregivers would render assistance and caring of elderly patients. Usually, Long Term Care industry needs health personnel as Assisted Living Nurse, Nursing Aid, MDS Nurse, and Wellness Nurse.
