The measures taken by IMO have been successful and the rate of serious hazards rate has been reducing from the last twenty years. The oil from the ships which used to enter into the sea also has reduced to a considerable extent. Since human resources are the most important resource of the shipping industry so it has become an important task of IMO to improve and develop human resources. With the opening of the ISM Code, it has made safety a prime concern. This code explains the responsibility for the safety and implementation of this code has become tremendously successful.

The IMO has also implemented training programs and has provided modern guidelines to its marine educational institutions through various technical programs. Thus it can be concluded that IMO provides detailed guidelines and direction which are essential. IMO is also concerned with developing a practical and useful solution to conduct ship recycling. It is basically taken into consideration by the ship owners when the ships are out of order.Ballast Water ManagementIMO has also made it compulsory to carry ballast water so that it keeps them steady in the water.

GarbageThe MARPOL Annex V (Garbage) has made provisions of having terminals for dumping the garbages in all ports.Control of Harmful Anti-Fouling SystemsIMO has prohibited the usage of harmful anti-fouling paints and organ tins.ConclusionIt can be said without a doubt that IMO has been taking a lot of initiatives taking which are very beneficial for the shipping industries to conduct their trading in an environmentally friendly way (International Maritime Organisation, 2007).
