Extract of sample "Electronic Waste and Its Disposal"

Now, more than ever, we need to come up with a strategy that helps in reducing the pollution caused by electronic waste. One of the ways the electronic waste, or e-waste, is discarded is by shipping it off to a developing country where it is then resold. This is a better method than simply discarding the machine, however, this can cause further problems as often the hazardous materials are exported unscreened, thus causing harm to the environment as well as to the people who come into contact with the e-waste.

One of the best ways to deal with this dilemma, as a study done by the United Nations University shows, is by seriously analyzing whether a new machine is required, and by reselling the old or outdated equipment to the used-product market. This, they suggest would be cheaper than recycling and would cause less environmental damage as well. The study also gives some other viable options, which include having the manufacturing process be regulated by setting standards as well as by banning certain heavy materials to be used.
