Regardless, for many companies to compete in the business world today, they must seek out the latest technology, especially when the economy is so bad. This is certain also true of CAD/CAM systems. Therefore, CAD/CAM systems can offer business and industry several innovations, but there are also a few drawbacks to the use of this technology. In order to understand how CAD/CAM systems work for businesses, we must first understand the process of selecting one. Why is it important to make sure a business picks the right system?

Companies all have their own various needs and requirements, and therefore need to make sure they pick a system that goes along with their goals and plans. Many businesses make the mistake of assigning those who do not understand the systems well, and therefore the companies wind up making bad decisions. Those who make the decisions need to understand the businesses’ strategic issues, along with the product development environment. One benefit of these systems is that today, they offer a lot of power and are reasonable priced.

However, there is a catch. Since the system will affect so many parts of the business, using it will require careful planning. The systems need to be assessed with this in mind, and many things do need to be taken into consideration when a business begins to use a CAD/CAM system. By considering these things, the CAD/CAM system can became an integral tool to greatly help the business environment (Dharsi, n.d.). To ensure that this system will become a useful part of the company, the company will need to decide on a person to pick the technology and keep it updated, or outsource and hire some sort of consultant with the technology skills to assist the business (MacCurdy, J. T., 1943).
