SWOT Chart on next page, courtesy of businessballs.com Comments on the essay: The paper is based on a case study. Unfortunately, a copy of the case study is not included, otherwise this would be a more thorough commentary about the paper’s analysis. However, from what was written, the paper comes across as well written, incisive and insightful. It also shows wit and humor, such as the play on the word “chip”, but the playfulness is neither misplaced nor improper, and it makes the paper interesting to read.
There may be a bit of confusion as to what may be classified “threats” and “weaknesses”. Threats are those which emanate from the environment and thus form sources outside the company, and weaknesses are shortcomings that come from within the company. In the essay, the fact that customers might look for sour cream dips in the refrigerated sections and thus might miss Frito Lay’s sour cream dips in the shelves is, strictly speaking, not a weakness but a threat, because it refers to consumer habits. However, it may, on second thought, indeed be classified as a weakness, because the choice to put the sour cream dip on the shelves near the chips is a choice by Frito Lay, a strategic move even, and thus a disadvantage in this choice is a weakness in Frito Lay’s marketing strategy on positioning.
That being said, it is the opinion of this professor that the essay is well written and deserves a good rating. Read More
