The use of euphemism is found in 40% of Bush’s speech. ii) “I have called the Armed Forces to alert, and there is a reason… Time hour is coming when America will act, and you will make us proud.” (223) – It is ironic to be proud when of winning a war when deep inside you know that some of our countrymen has shredded blood by going through war against the Al Qaeda. iii) “We will meet violence with patient justice – assured of the rightness of our cause, and confident of the victories to come.” (225) – There is no righteousness when somebody has to die in exchange of revenge.
MP #2: President Bush used up to 35% of his speech with jargon technique in order to confuse individuals with pretentious language in order to enable them to believe that revenge is the only solution to the September 11 attack. i) “The civilized world is rallying to America’s side.” (223) – It is possible that other countries were shocked and was sympathizing with the American victims. However, it is more practical for most of foreign people to mind their own personal problems instead of spending most of their time rallying to the side of America. ii) “They understand that if this terror goes unpunished, their own citizens may be next.” (223) – It is not logical for the Al Qaeda group to go out of their way to destroy a country’s economy without a strong political purpose.
