RAN or the Rainforest Area Network was founded by Randy Hayes in the year 1985 is an environmental organization based in San Francisco, California, USA consisting of 43 staff members from CA, Tokyo, Japan and all other concerned citizens across the globe.

By working together with the student groups, indigenous forest communities and NGOs and through the organizations own effective strategies RAN was able to accomplish its mission by organizing campaigns to redirect corporations away from the destruction and exploitation of non-sustainable forest resources (About RAN, 2008).
