Extract of sample "Demographic Explosion"

There have been significant changes in the population growth since 1967 and it has been unevenly distributed, since 1970, with growth in the South and West, and loss in the other areas. This will result in many types of social problems. Already there are many problems like increased traffic congestion, the proliferation of foreign language TV channels, expansion in the number of professional teams, and so on. These are minor issues compared to the more serious issues connected with the environment, education system, health care system, political system, and others.

The racial and ethnic disparities that the US is facing put the nation in great distress. The difference in these areas can turn up as a decisive factor in the making up of modern civility. The life in the nation is conditioned by the racial and ethnic group one belongs to. There is now a substantial gap between the minority and the White which can result in social unrest as well. The minority that is growing at a fast rate will hold an increasing share of future work, resulting in social imbalance.

The US needs to take necessary steps that reduce these age, race, and ethnic disparities so that there is no social unrest among the people. When we consider the changes in the size, composition, and distribution of the US population since 1967 when it reached 200 million, the clouds of social, political, environmental, educational, and other changes are visible that can affect the nation over a long period. For example, roughly 1 in 5 children residing in the US is an immigrant. To quote Linda Jacobson: "This has resulted in increases in limited-English proficiency among not only students but also their parents these changes have produced strains on the educational system and also for social service delivery." (the U.S at 300 million: symposium webcast. 2006). A large number of the American population is aging and this trend is expected to continue for quite a long time.

Another fact is that the number of blacks is increasing tremendously. The percentage of the White population will be 50% in 2050 whereas it was 80% in 1980. On the other hand, the percentage of Black and Hispanics will increase tremendously. The children will still outnumber the elderly through 2050 and the population is aging. All these factors cause serious problems of social concerns. The immigrants and their imbalanced distribution also cause serious problems. The geographical location of the immigrants also has changed which has its impact on the social setting.

The crucial problems related to these issues include their impact on the environment. Considering land use, it is converted to development twice as fast as the population. There is a shortage of water. Energy consumption is yet another concern. Air pollution and polity also are affected by these issues. In the education system and the social service delivery also there is tremendous impact like limited English proficiency. In the health care system, the cost of service is dramatically increasing and there are problems connected with the aging population.

In the political system, these impact the electoral votes. There will be greater political power for the South and the West.
