This article covers the number of high school students who are estimated to be taking steroids. It quotes the leading authority on steroid use in teens. It will tie in with the Egan article to show the escalating numbers of teens who take body enhancement drugs.Nowak, Rachel. "When Looks Can Kill: The Nip and Tuck Generation Faces a Danger Far Worse Than the Operation Going Wrong." New Scientist (2006): 18-21. Thomson Gale. 19 Mar. 2007.The Nowak article is a source for the number of people who seek plastic surgery.

It breaks down the numbers by types of surgery. It also reports on the percentage of patients who suffer from a mental disorder. This will connect with the article in the American Journal of Epidemiology that reports high suicide rates among plastic surgery patients. Both numbers are abnormally high. "Briefing Papers: Plastic Surgery For Teenagers." Welcome to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. 2007. ASPS. 19 Mar. 2007 <http://www.plasticsurgery.org/media/briefing_papers/Plastic-Surgery-for-Teenagers-Briefing-Paper.cfm>.This is the professional certification group for plastic surgeons, the ASPS.

"Mortality Among Canadian Women with Cosmetic Breast Implants." American Journal of Epidemiology 164.4 (2006): 334-41.This study related plastic surgery to a high rate of suicide in women. This was a peer-reviewed journal study.Brien, Caroline. "Cheeky Girls." Marie Claire Dec. 2005.Marie Claire is a magazine that caters to young women and fashion related articles. It is a good source to see how young women view fashion today. It is trendy and a good source of current attitudes and trends. It tends to be pro-fashion and is biased in favor of the industry.Pioneer, Francois, and Perrine Mane. Dress in the Middle Ages. New Haven, CT: Yale University Press, 1997.This book tells some of the earliest fashion histories of the western world.

It is very detailed and covers fashion as a social and cultural statement. It discusses the 'flow' of fashion and the cyclical nature of it. It is informative to find out where fashion originates. I plan to use a portion of the earliest reports of fashion causing a scandal.Peiss, Kathy L. Hope in a Jar. New York: Henry Holt and Company, 1998.Hope in a Jar is the history of cosmetics in the twentieth century. It primarily covers it from an industry standpoint and highlights the innovations and industry icons.

London UK: Prestel, n.d.This book is an encyclopedia of a high fashion of the twentieth century. It primarily covers the most well known and exclusive designers. It shows the interest that younger girls had in her extremely thin body shape. She has been criticized for increasing the problem of eating disorders among teens.Fahim, Kareem. "Apple Executive Calls Family of Teenager Killed for IPod." New York Times 6 July 2005.This newspaper article reports the tragedy of a teenager that was killed when he was robbed of a pair of tennis shoes and an iPod. There is an article on fashion in it that I will use to quote or paraphrase. It is a good article because it generates a better picture of the overall project.
