ADMISSION ESSAY 2007 ADMISSION ESSAY Contemplating my childhood experiences and school years I feel that nursing profession is the next logical step in my life. There are so many factors that have affected my intention to seek formal education in the field nursing that I can hardly rank them in order of importance. I may even overlook some critically important motives at this point of my life: this kind of factors is known to become evident only when one's hair flecks with gray. Putting myself at the risk of being deemed a trivial person, I must confess that the major reason for my decision is the increasing importance of nursing in modern health care and the nature of this profession, which is helping people.

However, it is not only about dedication: professional knowledge base also represents a very important factor in making a good nurse. Therefore, I want to gain a broader understanding of the specifics of nursing profession, master the professional skills required to provide high quality care, and learn more about the differences between nursing profession and other medical occupations. I have anxiety for knowledge in this field and I am inspired by the opportunity to learn from highly experienced and professional experts.

Increasing complexity and variety of medical practices significantly changed the nature of nursing profession. While in the past nursing might be about changing compresses and making sure the patient takes prescribed drugs at the right time these nowadays this profession should be considered a separate science that has its own specific subject, terminology and subdivisions. However, it is not only rapid advance of the medical science that contributes to such status of nursing. In my opinion, human factor is the factor that contributes greatly to the specifics of nursing profession.

Although any branch of medicine inevitably relates to human being, only in nursing the relationship between patient and medical professional plays so critical and essential role. Importance of such relationship is perfectly illustrated by the fact that in recent days nursing ethics represents one of the most controversial and discussed issues among medical experts, philosophers and public. Perhaps no other medical profession involves the same amount of moral and ethical obligations nursing profession does, and this is precisely what makes it so interesting.

Finally, career opportunities available to modern nurses also play an essential role in my choice of this profession. The growing shortage of nursing personnel has recently been emphasized in virtually any report related to the state of medicine. Evidently, this tendency poses a serious threat to the health care system, which increasingly relies on effective nursing. The only way to rectify such situation is to make the profession of nurse more attractive than before to ensure more people consider nursing as their future profession.

And the only way to achieve this goal is to offer better opportunities in terms of learning, career advancement, workplace conditions, etc. Although this reason for taking the career of nurse may seem too earthy considering the nature and importance of this profession, it does play an important role.
