1 Peoples Common Sense and using the book "Into the Wild" November 8, 2008 Not Everyone Has Common Sense Common sense means the sense, wisdom or intelligence, which is compulsory for the people to avoid daily, usual problems. In our daily life, we can come across many problems. For example, financial, legal and emotional problems are few common examples of daily life. To avoid, fix or solve these daily life problems, it is very important for any individual to use common sense at a regular basis. Common sense is just like other senses of the human body. Common sense exists in the thoughts and views of an individual instead of physical appearance. (McCarthy PAGE NUMBER HERE) Happiness is the key to common sense. If happiness is seen in the right context, then man will use his common sense correctly. If basic pleasures are neglected, then the wrong sort of happiness will be chased after. "That sort of divine discontent is not the pursuit of happiness, but rather the pursuit of unhappiness." (Chesterton, 32). As we know, that all the senses of normal human bodies always work correctly and properly. This accuracy of senses helps humans to avoid any wrong decision. Similarly, common sense must be accurate and work properly. This means that each individual must think positively and correctly, as common sense exists in the thinking view of individuals. In these circumstances, we can say that thinking positively and correctly, in time of trouble or during a problem, means the common sense is used properly. Moreover, if an individual became furious, fright or panic due to any problem, then the individual will make wrong decisions. Hence, it is very important to use common sense in time of any crisis. (Dario PAGE NUMBER HERE OR SECTION NUMBER) Family is the basic unit of any society. To develop a good society it is very important to make good, strong family ties. Strong family connections can be formed after the implementation of strong faith, confidence and beliefs. Today, our society, society of United States of America is suffering from weak families and unethical moral values. Moreover, the distance and lack of communication between the parents and their children is another reason for weak family structure. (Dario PAGE NUMBER HERE OR SECTION) Today, most of the population of United States of America think that they must live independently. Especially, teens and children who do not like restrictions and boundaries. Therefore, in these circumstances, parents are forced to let their children to implement their own thoughts and views. Parents allow their children to make their own decisions. This act with parents, falls in the category of wrong decisions. Common sense is to develop healthy and friendly relationships between parents and children. It is the responsibility of parents to develop these sorts of relations with their children from their childhood. Common sense can play an important role in the formation of strong family ties. Correct and in time use of common sense will help in the creation of strong society. (Dario PAGE NUMBER OR SECTION IE PARAGRAPH NUMBER HERE) Common sense not only reduces family problems, it also helps in reducing the expenses and reduces financial problems quickly. It is in the view that families in our society spend huge amounts of money for religious and social events, such as marriage parties or birthday parties. It is fine to do this for these special events. On the other hand, common sense suggests avoiding extra expenses. Furthermore, in case of extra expenses, it is sensible to save money after these events. For example, save money by reducing daily extra expenses or save money by reducing the shopping. This attitude of families will help them in reducing their financial problems. Common sense is to save money after the expenses on special events. (Vergara PAGE NUMBER OR SECTION HERE) "Into the wild" by Jon Krakauer is a very interesting book. The main audience or readers are teens and their parents. This book explains the distance and lack of communication between parents and their children. According to writer, Jon Krakauer, it is very important to reduce this gap between parents and their children. Moreover, the writer does not explain the importance of common sense in his book, but the behavior and actions of the main character. It shows the lack of common sense, which increases the problems, loneliness and sadness of the writer's main character "Chris McCandless". (Krakauer PAGE NUMBER HERE) Chris McCandless is the main character of "Into the wild" by Jon Krakauer. The writer tells us about the life of Chris and does not make any conclusion. The writer leaves the responsibility of conclusion and suggestions to his readers. Basically, he does not want to criticize the nature or behavior of parents or children. The writer wants to put his teen readers in the position of 'Chris McCandless' to make them think about the thoughts and attitude of Chris. Similarly, the writer wants parents to read the novel, to analyze their behavior and attitude. Lack of common sense and implementation of wrong decisions are the main factors that arise when people do not use their common sense. Now it is very common saying that man is a social or community animal and cannot live alone. Man was not created to live in the wild or jungle. Man was created to build cities and make progress. Man has an ability to think and implement his thinking by using his brain. Man is the beast creation of God. God blessed humans with a 'Brain' and the ability to think good and favorable thoughts for himself. Therefore, the decision of Chris McCandless to quit city life and start living in the wild was a disturbing decision. This decision shows the lack of common sense in Chris McCandless. (Review: Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer PAGE NUMBER HERE). Chris McCandless was unhappy. His venture into the wild may have been because he was in search of happiness. He was in pursuit of happiness and he thought it was within his grasp. He, also, did not use his common sense when he gave away his money to charity, instead of keeping some back for his journey, so that he could buy the necessary equipment, such as proper boots and hunting gear (krakauer, 5). This is where he did not use his common sense. He may have thought this journey would give him the happiness that he was searching for, but he may have not known or understood real happiness. G.K. Chesterton (31) writes in his book the following regarding happiness: It is another example of us not knowing how to enjoy enjoyment. We put so much emphasis on the pursuit of happiness rather than on the happiness itself. All the things that we need to make us reasonably happy lie within our grasp. If we pause in our frantic pursuit of happiness, if we stop and try to picture happiness, it is something different from the fuss and frustration that fills our pursuit. Happiness is something simple and basic. And everyone knows this, if they would only stop and consider it. It is common sense. Another main feature of Chris McCandless's character which makes only one sense is his qualification. Chris McCandless completed his college graduation and he was twenty four years old. Now his common sense says that Chris must implement his learning in good and healthy activities to help his country's progress. Instead of implementation of his learning, he spoils his learning by leaving his perfect city life and family surroundings. After education, this act of Chris not only makes no sense, but it only shows the lack of common sense in his decisions with life. Education helps in the development of good and mature character, but in this case, Chris not only spoils his accomplishments, but he spoils his life too. (Review: Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer PAGE NUMBER HERE). Another main aspect of the book is the relation between father and son. Chris McCandless created distance from his parents in college life. Now common sense suggests that parents are the most loving, caring and the best wisher of individuals for their children. Creating communication gaps between parents and children makes no sense. It is fine if Chris McCandless was disturbed from the responsibilities and rights of family, but it makes no sense to create lack of communication or quit communication from parents in any case or situation. Moreover, this behavior shows the irresponsibility of parents in the society of United States of America. (Review: Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer PAGE NUMBER HERE). To eliminate the gap between children and parents, it is very important that parents keep up their communication with their children on a regular basis. The best time for communication between children and parents is at the dinner table or breakfast time. They must discuss vital issues during dinner, such as "how was your day" for example. Furthermore, it would be nice to talk after dinner in case the child has problems. These discussions will help in making good and healthy relationships between parents and their children. However, it is very important for parents to take good care for their child's feelings and emotions. Another main point is the importance and motive of education. Education and learning provide the ability to make correct decisions. Educated individuals like Chris McCandless left his city life to go into the wild was an act that Chris McCandless had wasted, regarding his education and future ahead. He did not consider the consequences of his exploration and he should have discussed this with his parents or someone. This means that parents must use their common sense when they communicate with their children and must tell their children the true motive and aim of education and life.
