The existing Social Security and Medicare benefits may not prove to be sufficient for the older ones because in all likelihood the medical services become more costly for the older people as their requirements of medical attention become more. Well, to a great extent the improved medical services are one good reason for an increase in the average age of an individual. As a result, many households now a day consist of four generations. In many such cases, the number of financially dependent family members far exceeds the working members.

Out of these four generations, the third generation, who are the only ones in the labor force, will have to support their parents, grandparents, and their children. This phenomenon is certainly the result of an increasingly aging population with a high life expectancy. In order to aid the increasing older population, the U.S. has to propose creative policies to prevent a serious imbalance of supply and demand for Social Security and Medicare services. Also, citizens of the U.S. will have to start building their retirement plans at their young age to live a good and healthy life after their retirement.3. As the aging population is becoming a bigger issue than ever before, I chose my first data to present the percentage of the total population who are 65 years and over by using the state map.

The map indicates that the top six states are Florida, North Dakota, Iowa, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Maine. Among the six States, Florida appears to be the most popular state for the older population to live, especially for retired people, as this state has various welfare schemes for them such as retirement home and weather. My second data shows the total number of persons by state. As I expected, California is the most populous state in the U.S. Also this data tells us that the population of California is almost twice as compared to the second most populous states like Texas, Florida, or New York, California accounts for about 10% of the population of the U.S. My third data shows the percent of people of foreign origin.

This indicates the popularity of a particular state amongst the immigrant population. After comparing this map with the previous map (total persons), I found that California, Texas, Florida, and New York are the more popular places amongst the immigrant community. The population of foreign-born people is more in these states as compared to other states.
