Running Head: The future of information technology in Criminal Justice Systems Sub PageIntroduction; 3Information Technology and Crime Prevention: 3Prosecutions: 3-4Information Technology and the Courts: 4Information Technology and the Correctional Administration: 4-5References: 6IntroductionIn the Criminal justice system, the information system holds a reasonably influential position. The New York City, has already adapted the wireless system, as part of a non profit organization advocating and enabling the growth of free, public wireless internet access in the city as well as the surrounding areas (http://www.

nycwireless.net). In partnership with city park organizations, business improvement districts as well as local non-profit organizations, New York Wireless has made free, public wireless Hotspots at Madison Square Park, Bryant Park and many other parks, where they have continued to work with the members of the public through their advisory committees. Information Technology and Crime Prevention On law enforcement, such information systems have helped in crime prevention and criminal justice program network, technical cooperation activities, and the development of the criminal justice information aimed at maintaining institutional capacities to respond to requests from member states as well as the general public.

Future activities in the Information technology require more funding, planning, and coordination within the crime prevention and criminal justice programs in the realm of criminal justice information and computerization (Dana Spiegel 2009, pg 113).ProsecutionsThere are potential benefits that will come about with the use of wireless technologies in the criminal justice systems, which will mainly be realized in prosecutions, courts, and the correctional parts of the criminal justice systems. The prosecution will undoubtedly see an improved case output through the computer-based systems to assist with the cases' recording, in detail, and to track progress on each case, thereby triggering reminders when actions fall due.

It will also bring about better use of clerical and professional resources as a result of easier recording and collating of information pertaining to different cases. There will be an improvement in the positive identification of other prosecutions pending on individuals, by accessing the case register of other prosecutors and courts. (Leslie Thomas 2009)These wireless technologies will also result in a higher successful rate of prosecution, as it allows for better analysis of each case details, and assistance with decision making in the charges selection through the provision of faster access to statutes and case law, and the examination of the effects of adopting combinations of pleas and charges.

(Leslie Thomas 2009)Information Technology and the Courts According to Dana Spiegel (2009), the courts form an integral part of the criminal justice system, where any technology that would positively bring about any impact would be appreciated. In this case, an interchange of technologically based information will result into a more rapid transfer of case details from law enforcement, or the prosecutor. This will result into fewer cases being dismissed on account of procedural administrative errors.

Improved sentencing decisions will be possible through the availability at sentence of accurate criminal history information and of court-related information, e.g. the payment history of the outstanding files (pg 115) Information Technology and the Correctional AdministrationBenefits will also be realized in the correctional administration parts of the criminal justice system, where the use of the information system will result in less requirements for clerical personnel for routine clerical duties, related to maintaining inmate records.

Also, the technology will make it easy for transferring and escorting prisoners between courts and prisons, as well as between the prison establishments through the use of technologically sophisticated transportation and planning systems, which will further improve security, through using the logging system in recording the inmates' location and movements between the prison's establishments and also a recording system to note prisoner association (Dana Spiegel 2009, pg 117)References Dana Spiegel (2009).
