They were co-directing the country program of an aid agency called CUSO. It was the first time in our lives that my father had worked less than full-time, and we loved the opportunity to spend more time with him. At the same time, my mom was working more than she ever had, and taking on new challenges that were clearly major growth experiences for her. I learned a lot from watching how she handled the stresses, and watching how my parents worked out an appropriate division of job responsibilities together." (http://www.magma.ca/urbship/jobs.html) Problem Statement In this cutthroat competition, job sharing is playing an important role in almost all sorts of businesses. In job sharing, each partner receives the full time benefits. In contrary, there are people who say that job sharing reduces the efficiency of the company as well of its employees. In this paper, we will examine why job sharing is good and what type of benefits the employees can get from it Purpose of Study Job sharing permits business to recruit skilled, experienced workers who may not be available for or eager to do full-time work. Job sharing is a good field for both males and females but more precisely for women having kids. They can work as well as look for their family. Hypothesis Job sharing divides a full time job between different people who share the responsibilities, pays and benefits. And can work either for morning or evening according to their needs. Delimitations Job sharing tolerates one position to be filled by two people different but harmonizing knowledge. Without the knowledge it is not possible to go further with the work. There should be the knowledge of related work and the company's objectives. Limitations Where job sharers have administrative responsibilities staff may find it demanding or confusing to work for two people. There is a problem that the manager can experience is that there are two people to look for. In addition, some job sharers may feel that they are attaining proportional more than a full-time employee and that they are being insufficiently paid. Definition "Deal in which the responsibilities and hours of one job position are accepted out by two people." The deal contains the agreement about working with the other employee and sharing the benefits and pays. The company must organize workshops in order to provide total knowledge about the job for both the sharers and must provide the total tools required to cover the job. If one of employee wants to leave the job the company must look for another person to follow the job with the one who is working. The work should be done on time with effectiveness and efficiency by both the workers and must take company's objectives as their own. The women can get more benefits in job sharing and can get the required benefits. Even males can get good results with job sharing they can work at two places at a time for better allowance. There must be better allowance for the workers and they should be given more benefits like transport facilities, hospital facilities etc. Chapter No. 2 - Literature Review Introduction Job Sharing is an adaptable work arrangement in which two employees share the responsibility and benefits of one permanent position with another employee. Some employees work few hours in swap for a lower salary and abridged benefits. They can work either morning or evening according to their necessities. In a job-sharing environment, two employees divide the responsibility for the work between them. One may work in the morning and the other in afternoon or they can work in the alternate days. Job sharing works best if two employees have balancing and communication skills. Technological Approach - Job Sharing 1. Current Workplace: A well-matched coworker or provisional worker who substitutes you or a coworker during a leave is both possibilities. "A pairing of two currently valued employees whom your employer would rather not lose could be your favorable approach". 2. Professional and Personal Networks: Start putting the word out about your partner hunt to contacts in your professional organization, colleagues from previous jobs, people in your exercise class, etc. 3. Placement Offices: Those of nearby colleges and universities might be a good source for identifying leads as many students are past traditional college age, with families. 4. Employment Agencies: If there are nearby agencies that specialize in your field, you may want to let them know about your potential opening. 5. Advertisements: Classified ads in local professional publications may yield results when other avenues are less fruitful. (http://www.workoptions.com/jobshare.htm) Behavior Approach - Job Sharing Identify What You Desire You should be clear of what you want. Don't give yourself indistinct objectives such as "any job that pays." Make your objectives and goals very explicit and specific. Anticipate Best but Arrange For Hardship Always expect achievement, but prepare for the bad things in life. Adversity happens to the best of us. Our challenge is to overcome adversity. Adversity is everywhere in the world there is no such place where there is no adversity. Be Optimistic When you establish a "win, win, win" attitude, you will start to win. When you start to think positively, everything in the region of you will be positive. If you are positive about the work you have done no one can challenge you. Be Confident You must have confidence in yourself. If you are not confident in yourself, people will not be confident in you. People respect and admire confident people. If you are confident then your wrongly done things could also be right. Without confidence, there is nothing for you in the market. Other People Can Assist You People will help you to get where you want to go. You will never make it alone easily. People can teach you and help you become a better person. The people working with you can help you, so you should be more polite to them. Having good manners and thinking you can conquer the world. Chapter No. 3 - Methodology Where survey is taken Through Internet I searched trough net and got various sites. I searched different sites and collected the data.so it can be said that survey is done on the world basis. The data in this is collected world widely. People are not included in this data as there is no physical quiestionaire taken place. The basic things are collected from various sites and are more precizely. Job Sharing Is Beneficial for who and why For Who and Why Job sharing is a very helpful deal these days. Anyone can take the benefits from the deal but it is more specifically for students, women and old age peolple. The people who cannot work for full time basis because of their problems can job share with each other. The people in their problems can take the advantage of this arrangement. For Women This job sharing is more beneficial for women as they also have to take care of their homes. There are many problems for the women especially with families they have to look for their familes as well as to earn good amount of money - job sharing is best for them. Case - Example In the case of Federated Municipal and Shire Council Employees Union NSW FMSCEU) v Nambucca Shire Council (NSW IRC 26 August 1998), the NSW Industrial Relations Commission found that Nambucca Shire Council discriminated against the employee (represented by her union) indirectly on the basis of her sex and therefore contravened the NSW Anti-Discrimination Act 1977. The Council had refused to consider a request by the employee to change her working arrangements from full-time to part-time job share, rejecting it on the grounds of alleged inefficiency. The Commission noted that women are the primary caretaker for children and may seek to accommodate their caring responsibilities by working flexibly. The Commission stated that to reject out of hand a working arrangement, which would provide assistance to primary child caretaker, represents discrimination against women. The Commission recommended that the Council trial a job share arrangement for six months. (http://www.industrialrelations.nsw.gov.au/workandfamily/strategy/guidebook/guide_jobshare.html) For Students Students can get the job sharing facility very easily. They can get job (job sharing) while studying. These students can also earn well to meet their daily expenses. For Old Age People Old aged people are not much active that they can carry the whole day work. Job sharing facility is ideal for them too. They can share their jobs and work according to their strength. Fulltime This is required when the job sharers are doing the job on a day to day basis, like if one of the employees is doing a full time job for 2 or 3 days then the other can work for full day for the remaining days of the week. The employees are given benefits as whole and then it is divided among the two. For example, the student can do a job if there is a class in the day he/she can give the job to the other employee/student. Part Time This is when two employees work on hourly basis. If one works for 3 or 4 hours a day then the other should work for the rest of the hours in the day. The employees are paid individually. The partime job is required by the old age people who cannot expand more of their time sitting in the office and working. Delay Basis This is the situation when one employee comes late and the other do his or her work.this is basically like one comes 1 hour late, then the other follow the work on his behalf. This is for the women having kids or families. The women can work on this basis. Participants of Job Sharing "The U.S. government had been promoting various flexible work opportunities for years. The U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) provides the following advice for employees that want to job-share: The experience reported by employers of job sharing teams suggests that job sharers must be good communicators, be willing to consult and cooperate as members of a team rather than as competitors, be flexible, and have a strong commitment to the job and to making the job sharing arrangement work." (http://www.workoptions.com/jobshare.htm) Materials Advertising Job Sharing Individuality of Flourishing Job Sharers Position Images Dividing and Sharing Responsibilities Scheduling Work Hours Performance Evaluations Shared Space and Equipment Communicating Ending or Changing a Job Sharing Arrangement Procedure 1. Depending upon the size of your association or the number of workers involved, create an advice-giving group for the job sharing or other work preparations. The group must be sufficient enough to manage the company 2. Select a manager, a manager with admission to and support of management. He must be skilled, effective and efficient. 3. Define the agenda. The workers must know the company's objectives. 4. Present a suggestion to management for the job sharing or part-time alternative for the section. 5. Ascertain the rules for job sharing or part-time for the association. Address the rule issues and other matter identified in this substance. 6. Select the member. 7. Have the participants complete and sign an agreement for the job sharing arrangement, which will spell out the schedule, procedures for tracking time, expectations for communications and such. 8. Train the staff and managers on the program. (http://emory.hr.emory.edu/awa_website/compressed.htm) The company must follow the procedure in order to earn the required benefits. The workers as well should follow the instructions in order to earn something. Chapter No. 4 - Findings "It is important to find partners in a job sharing position that have work styles, habits, preferences, quality standards, and communications skills that are compatible and closely matched. Many times, it can be advantageous if the employees select their own partners to ensure that these conditions are met. Employees who participate in job sharing divide their responsibilities in several different ways. (http://www.magma.ca/urbship/jobs.html) There is a wide range in job sharing specially for females because they can't work full time. Due to many reasons they do so. The graph shows that there is a wide range of females. This graph shows the group of people who job share from 1980 till 1995. There is a range of student's women and aged people who cannot do full time job. Chapter No. 5 - Conclusion "Finding and choosing a compatible work partner is the most crucial aspect of job sharing. Do this step before you actually develop and present the proposal to share your existing position. With that person identified, you can present a realistic, workable job-sharing proposal filled with the details, which the two of you have discussed. Referencing the person's experience and skills within the proposal, and attaching her resume, are also part of the 'sell' to your manager." (http://www.magma.ca/urbship/jobs.html) In a nutshell, job sharing is a voluntary arrangement in which one full-time job is shared by at least two employees. As each employee works on a permanent part-time basis, the information contained in Part-time work is also relevant to this section. Like part-time work, job sharing is a practical way of attracting and retaining experienced and skilled employees who do not wish to or are unable to work full-time because of their family responsibilities. Job sharing is also a good solution for any job where its demanding nature otherwise results in a high turnover rate. Job sharing employees are generally more satisfied with their work arrangements and less stressed.
