Personal ment Why do you want to come to the Ross School of Business Modern life provides the with greater choices of their academicpursuits. This is especially important in the case of female student who were not given any role in the decision making with regard to their studies. Now, even the female students of the new generation can challenge the stereotype concept of their nature. The emerging philosophies of women's freedom help the modern generation challenge the orthodox, conventional, and stereotyped generation, and their decisions have greater relevance in the changed situation. It is in this platform that I understand my selection of studies in America and that too at the Ross School of Business for my academic career. To clarify the point, I strongly believe that Ross Business School is the best place for me to bring down the stereotype my family hold on women. I belong to a family that is very much orthodox in its way of thinking about the female role and one of most challenging duties as a modern youth has been to challenge this conventional stereotype of women's role in the society. I realized that I could not obtain very much from this type of life, spending most of my time with friends without a significant progression in my education. This awareness stimulated me to change my education path. Fortunately, I enjoyed the support of some of my elders in this endeavor. Once I was aware of the fact that the American education system gives priority for students' participation, this attracted me to be one of those active-learners instead of the passive-learners. And, obviously, the Ross School of Business has been one of my first preferences as it provides great facilities and opportunities for a student of business and I have been very convinced that my selection would not be affected by the provisions in the college. However, there have been problems of different type that came from my entire family; old stereotypes about how women are not expected to study abroad except in Singapore - since studying at Singapore was not considered to be "abroad' - were casually mentioned. This obstructed me when I told my parents about my intention to study in the US. They believed that a woman should eventually get married, stay home, and be a good housewife. Thus, they felt that a higher education would be useless for woman. However, since I saw to humans to be considered equal, so should women and men in my society; we can have the same opportunities. I do not want to be a wife like other women in my generation of my family or for that reason a stereo type woman of my family's selection. I wanted to break the construct of women built by the conventions by pursuing one of the most unconventional academic quests and business administration and a course in the US served the best tool for my purpose. There were many factors that helped me in my pursuit. There were some thinking people who would support my idea and I managed to get the permission and I will prove to my family that this was the best decision for my future. I believe that if I do not depend on other people, particularly my family, I will have a greater opportunity to better explore my strengths. This opportunity to be a student at the Ross School of Business will be the most suitable one to follow my determination. The quality of learning in the institute along with other environments would help me gain the best development of my academic career and my personality. All these rightly indicate the reasons for me to opt for the Ross School of Business. 2. The BBA Program requires excellent teamwork skills and there are many group projects in the curriculum. Tell us about a group or team experience from college that either went very well or that ended badly. In retrospect, would you have done anything differently Please tell us why or why not. Teamwork skills are most essential for the success of group projects which "include the mix of interactive, interpersonal, problem solving and communication skills needed by a group of people working on a common task, in complementary roles, towards a common goal whose outcomes are greater than those possible by any one person working independently." (Why: Students need teamwork skills. Definition). Many successes unachieved due to the deficiency of a single person's act can be achieved by a good teamwork. Therefore, it is of paramount implication to comprehend that the essential element of a group activity or project is the teamwork that is developed through the activity. This essential nature of the BBA program has been greatly emphasized in the modern learning procedures. I also gained this particular awareness through the various group activities that I took part at BCC, my college. To illustrate the teamwork skills that helped me in the success of group projects, I will tell my experience of being the MC in the International Night conducted by ISA. I have involved in many ISA events such as International Night, Halloween Dance, and Chinese New year event. ISA means International Student Association and I joined it summer quarter last year. I am currently holding a position as the Vice President of ISA. I achieved valuable teamwork skills experiences through the various events held by this club and by the activities of the organization itself. Not only did it contribute to my personal development, but also it did give a good impact on my way of thinking. International Night was an event that taught me how group activity and teamwork can contribute to the success of a project. As ISA has been usually conducting this great event every year, we were also, when it turned up to be our time, expected to hold event more successfully than the previous years. Thus, we needed to be greatly creative and productive for the success of the program. We arranged for a general meeting of the members and assigned specific role each of them which they would be doing in groups and organizing among different groups. Hence, good preparation and creativity were produced as a preliminary level. We worked together for decoration and all other activities related to the success of the event. As one of the responsible leaders, I needed to spend much time involving myself to the preparation of the event, along with the uptight schedule of my classes in this quarter. To my difficulty, I had been taking four classes then, working in accounting lab as accounting tutor and participating in another organization - Business Leadership Club as the special project officer. This hectic life tremendously tested my ability to manage my time efficiently and engage in group activities. I was even required to stay awake until late night to do my school work and to finish my MC's script for International Night. Apart from the serious responsibility of coordinating the different group activities, I was also the MC of the event. There was great responsibility on my shoulders and it was especially the teamwork that helped me meet the challenging role of my work. At first, as they informed me about this, I felt very reluctant to accept this responsibility. All my team members were ready to contribute heavily to the success of the event and their timely support was instrumental in meeting the different needs of my responsibilities. Thus, the team work was the most essential contributor to the success of the event. I still cherish our great feeling at the grand event that gained the praise of even the previous coordinators of the event. I strongly feel that any different strategy would fail in gaining such a great success of the event. 3. Using an example from your college experience-aside from classes and class work, please tell us what activity is most important to you and why. Please use a different example from the one used in Question 2. As we have already seen, group activities have a significant role in the growth of a student's skills especially with regard to group activities and projects and the business studies stress these even more emphatically. I also had several other college experiences of outside the class activities. These provided me great opportunities to develop my potentials and improve my deficiencies. One of the most remarkable experiences, which I always cherish about, came from taking a position as the Special Project of Business Leadership Club (BLC) at BCC. This also required me to do many tasks. Together almost at the same time with International Night, BLC also held a recruiting panel that presented many speakers from different fields of business. Representatives from nine big companies were agreeable to attend this event and the speakers included those from Boeing, Microsoft, Costco, Nordstrom, Starbucks, etc. This panel was more about what and how each represented companies do and look at for their job-interview process from the new employee.Due to the responsibility of my position, I was to ensure the success of the event including the preparation and the conduct of it. The involved activities and great efforts put on the event I was able to be one of the most instrumental figures behind the success of the event. This panel turned out to be very successful and several students took part in it. Meeting with business people from different backgrounds and business experiences also gave me a chance to explore more about real business world as well as give a basis to build business networking. Most significantly, I can assure that my confidence was greatly improved due to the event. Therefore, I always strongly conclude that the experience in the US was so important in gaining the significant development of my personality. I have learnt a great deal since I first arrived here earlier this year, from cooking to balancing my bank accounts. To the surprise of those who knew me earlier to my arrival in the US and to the greatest surprise of myself, there has been a tremendous improvement in my character, nature and personality. I now recognize myself as being different from other people in a sense that I do not hide from difficulties. I enjoy the challenges and the sense of achievement that I get after overcoming them.
