IMAGERY ESSAY INTRODUCTION Can life be really that dull I guess it depends on the perception of the individual. The following essay shows usa particular community's student life. BODY I could feel the cool wind caress by cheeks as I and my classmates were led by our teacher outside the classroom. I immediately noticed the softdrink left by one of the students perched on the edge of the side railings. Could it be that the person in the walking well dressed person in the picture be the one who left the unfinished thirst quencher in her haste to run home so she could study for tomorrow's tests Well, by applying probability and statistics which my professor just taught me the last time we met, there is a high possibility that she did do it. As we approached the stairs going towards the swimming pool, I noticed that we were the only ones left. I guess because everyone is too busy catching up on their assignments, The time for frolicking around and passing the time playing basketball or chess or even just flirting with the opposite sex has been drastically reduced. 2 Upon reaching the outer part of the school premises, the air now felt colder and the wind speed had increased. The news yesterday stated that the a hurricane had just hit Florida's pristine beaches damaging the roofs of houses there. As the sun is slowly going to sleep, the peaceful night aura welcomes us. We could see the leaves of the trees being violently tossed back and forth by the rushing gusts of air. Although I could see the sky is in its beautiful and cloudless blue, I could weirdly hear the sounds of bat wings as they come out of their dormant sleep to feast on the insects. In my biology class, we learned that such a predator and prey environment is part of life's grand plan for each species to try to survive and reproduce. After walking a few yards, we came around to this lawn which is full of gold colored grass. The toppled down road marker is a clear proof that some students just want to play franks by kicking aside the road markets and in fact the boulder has been moved there because a friend of mind who whispered to me yesterday that it also was used a road side marker in order to lessen the road width. The students, without authority, had made converted this one car lane to a wider two car lane. As we are now nearing our destination (swimming pool) we turned around the corner brushing aside the fallen golden leaves that had not been swept for the past two days. I could discern the chicken near the tree and in fact, see felt so sad that the egg, which could be seen to the right of the chicken , has been crushed by the stray cat recently, judging by the freshness of the egg shell cracks. Cats love to devour chicken eggs. I fondly call eggs as an important contributor of vitamin E ( jokingly for eggs). Pacing our steps faster, we are near our objective which is the swimming pool. What I love about this area is that the grass is always mowed and the Bermuda grass is a sight for sore eyes! I could clearly see the door still open at this late hour of the day. I need to hurry because my hunger pains are now churning up. At last, mission accomplished! We have finally reached our destination. The smell of the swimming pool chemicals is easily discernable from this many feet from the pool. I could taste the cold wind as it raises the hairs of my arms. I remember now, there is no class today, based on my intuition, because I could not see any soul in sight inside the pool area. The pool door is open which means that someone could be lurking around guarding the pool area. No, I guess I was wrong, although I do not see anybody wallowing in the pool, I could clearly hear the coach of the varsity swimming team shouting at the top of his lungs. He is infuriated by the swimmers taking too long a rest just standing in the swimming pool and flirting with the opposite sex. The swimmers heeded the call of the coach and started doing the butterfly stroke and the freestyle stroke across the width of the pool. The kids were so noisy and so flirtatious that the aggressive coach finally told the kids that they will go home early if the can learn all the swimming strokes scheduled for this day. The swimmers happily started their practice sessions in haste so they could go home to their loved ones. It is getting late, our teacher has called us saying it is time to go home. So upon reaching outside the pool area, I looked back lazily at the wire fence that embraces the swimming pool area. I really have to get back home so I could study for tomorrow's lessons. The sunset is now dimly lighting our path, I could hardly see the person several yards ahead. The darkness is now enveloping our group. I am watching my steps looking for the deadly snakes, because my mother said snakes often come out at night to feed on rats and chickens like the one I saw a near the near earlier. Yes, I was right, more bats are crowding the air now and the insects are frantically flying to and fro literally flying for their lives. We could now hear the noises of the speeding cars as we reach the outer parts of the school. Our school has spacious lawns where students can sit around to know each other better. I also noticed that the lawn keeper has just removed all the wastes thrown irresponsibly by some of the students. I think it is school policy that the school premises have to be cleaned every day after the students have gone home. My classmate to the left asked me if he could borrow my mathematics textbook and I informed him how eager I was to lend it to him tomorrow after the exams. We continued to walk further away from the school building. We are now trying to reach the bridge in haste because the insects are now starting to bite us. I forgot to bring my insect repellent lotion today because my morning headache caused me to forget. At last, we are now nearing the bridge. I could see the sun's last stand as it is slowly going to the other side of the world. As we sleep, the other side of the world will wake up to routinely work, work & endlessly work to feed their families. I could still remember in our history class, when people of the ancient time thought that the world was flat. To me, this means that all humans have their days together which is not true for we know that as one side sleeps, the other side is awake. I can now see the landmark ahead which looks like a square wall attachment. This is indicative that the bridge is just a few minutes away. A little further is all I have to endure before I could have a good night's rest. Finally, the bridge is not too far. Walk, walk, walk is what we do as we merrily feel that our walk is about to end. We can now, not literally of course, see the light at the end of the tunnel. Finally, the bridge is far behind, we could see the cars rushing in the busy thoroughfare ahead. The streetlights are now acting as lighthouses to us as we approach the bend. Again, my intuition was wrong, I could see a soul on the ledge watching the world go by. Could he be the night watchman I think he could be and he could be not. From the looks on his face, he is happy and contented with his present activity of watching the cars go to and fro. Oh I forgot, as I marvel at the outstretched leaves of the tree, I forgot to remember that famous poem entitle "trees" by Joyce Kilmer. The poem goes, "I shall never see a poem as lovely as a tree". Yes, that is right for without trees, we could not be three ( parents and a child). The cars are rushing by in the highway. The speed limit here is not the same as the speed limits in other counties because ours is a moderate community unlike other communities. I noticed now that the sun has finally traverse to the other side of the mountain (words I could recall from a song). The darkness has set and the community is now silently snugly comfortable at home. The street is now slowly at sleep for we could count by the fingers the number of cars that pass us per hour. I could see the sign 60 indicating that it is now time to rest. I could hear the passengers and the passersby walking about definitely returning home from their work or academic life. I could the white car with the two lovers sweetly petting each other. As the song goes, LOVE IS IN THE AIR. Well, I guess, this is the end of the line for I am now jumping into the car to speed to my humble abode. As I look around, I could see that there are many cars parked in the local grocery store. This also confirms my observation that there is indeed a happy NIGHT LIFE for the outgoing and the persons happily in love. I could even see from afar, a man carrying a lighted candle as he exits the grocery with his girlfriend. Who says love and candle lights do not go together I can hardly see a swarm of birds perched on the grocery roof but I can easily hear their chirping sounds as they serenadingly lullabye me the passersby below to sleep. CONCLUSION: As the world goes to sleep on one side, the other side of the world wakes up to face another day's challenges. For everything there is a beginning and there is an end. The image of today's walk ends as slowly as it had begun. REFERENCE: Schermerhorn et al., Organizational Behaviour, John Wiley & Sons, New York, 1997 Read More
