Joining the Police Force Public service is public trust. The personal management statement focuses on generating some obvious reasons for boldly going where most of the people have not gone before, becoming a police officer. The personal management statement focuses on giving other reasons for being a police officer. Being a police officer is a decision that is both challenging and rewarding. This officer joined one of the pillars of our criminal justice system to make a difference (Gerber, 2001). The police officers ensure that everyone obeys the law. The police officers keep the convicted as well as charged individuals within the jail cells. The police officers take care of the safety as well as health conditions of the jailed individuals. Joining the police force fulfills my dream to make a difference in society. Police officers contribute their fair share to the improvement of the current community relationships as well as other police patrol activities. The police officer writes crime reports whenever an accident crops up. The police officer conducts a rigid investigation in every criminal activity. The police officer responds to calls for help during robberies, rapes, and other crime activities. Joining the police force entails mustering mental and physical efforts to accomplish one’s life-threatening job responsibilities (Gerber, 2001). The police officer places one’s only life on the line when he or she answers the victim’s call for help. The police officer’s life is in danger when he carries out an arrest order to capture an individual. The police officer’s life is threatened whenever he chases the criminal elements escaping from a robbery, murder, or other crime scenes. Joining the police force enhanced the community’s safety and security levels to unprecedented levels. The street gangs have folded up. There is a significant reduction in snatchers within this officer’s eagle- eyed watch. This officer had written lots of police reports needed by media, insurance companies, courts, and other interested parties. This officer has continually stressed to all parties that he means business in terms of reducing the criminal elements’ illegal activities during the police officer’s challenging peacekeeping tour of duty. Joining the police force entails sacrifices. The police officer chooses to attend school to further one’s academic learning. The police officer attends schools to qualify for a higher rank. The police officer has to allocate lots of time to study the academic lessons. Consequently, the police officer gives up his time allocated to drinking with neighbors, friends, and relatives. Similarly, the police officer gives up his time allocated to playing basketball, baseball, or soccer. The police officer gives up time allocated to being a coach potato, glued to the television set most of the day (Gerber, 2001). Joining the police force entails keeping oneself alive. One cannot block out the stories of police officers who died while in the performance of their chosen endeavor. One cannot block out the possibility that one’s gun may not shoot when the criminal is about to shoot the police. The police officer cannot remove the danger of being shot by a criminal while roaming around the street corner on foot. Joining the police force ensures the people can soundly sleep at night feeling safe and secure in their homes. The community will surely welcome a streetcar roaming the streets to check any suspicious person within the vicinity. The community will feel safe with a police precinct set up within the community. The community will feel secure that their stores will not be robbed because the police officers regularly patrol the store’s vicinity. Joining the police force brings in equality to the current safety condition of the community. The police officer will not discriminate against the African Americans while on police duty. The police officer will not discriminately perform his duties because of the person’s age. The police officer will not discriminate against a person because of one’s religious beliefs. The police officer will not discriminate against a person because he or she is a complete stranger. Joining the police force brings in fears of being killed. The police officer does not have the strength of Robocop, who can easily overpower a group of criminal elements. The police officer does not always have the superior fire power to overcome the guns and other firearms of criminals. The police officer is always in danger of being ambushed while performing one’s duty. The police officer does not always have the bullet proof vest needed to protect one from being felled by the crime syndicates’ henchmen. Joining the police force is a challenging job. The police officer must learn the basics of making police reports. The police officer must learn to enhance one’s crime report writing skills. He or she should plan one’s peacekeeping efforts to ensure more people will embrace the police officers’ instructions with a willing heart. The police officer must know how to make friends with the community’s residents. One must know how to be in good terms with the African Americans. One must know how to get along with the elderly people of the community. The police officer should learn to be in good terms with the Latin American residents of the community. Joining the police force was not an easy choice (Gerber, 2001). The police officer could be a businessman, but he did not pursue this occupational prerogative. The police officer could be a teacher; however, he did not focus on this alternative profession. The police officer could be an engineer and build skyscrapers and long bridges, but he did not give such an idea a second thought. The police officer could be nurse and take care of the elderly, sick, and the wounded, but he preferred a more challenging but gratifying job. Joining the police force is a very respectable profession. One has the respect of the community. The criminals will find more difficult to rob a police officer compared to robbing the average pedestrian. The community will converse with the police officer with respect and power. The criminal elements will behave whenever the police officer is around. Joining the police force will ensure one’s family will not go hungry. The police officer has a regular job. The police officer is assured of a regular monthly income while working for the city’s safety and security. The police officer can easily propose to marry one’s sweetheart because he or she can afford to raise a family. Joining the police force ensures the traffic is reduced to allowable levels. The police officers can instrumentally aid in brining a stalled vehicle to the road bend or side. Often, stalled vehicles block the free entry and exit of vehicles along the road’s paths. The police officers can write the police reports that are needed prior to the dislodging of the accidentally damaged cars or other vehicles from blocking the entry or exit of other vehicles. Joining the police force was not an easy decision (Gerber, 2001). Some relatives wanted the police officer to take a different occupational path. Another relative preferred taking an initially higher paying job, which was turned down by the police officer. Another individual scared the wits out of the officer by stating the police officer job equates to having one foot firmly entrenched in one’s own grave. It took a long while before the police officer finally affirmed that the police officer job is the best professional job in our current society. Joining the police force will ensure one’s communication skills are maximized. The police officer can easily communicate with police officers in another county to prevent an escaping criminal from running away from the crime scene. The police officer must communicate effectively and efficiently with the representatives of the community to ensure the police officers receives and sends relevant information to the community residents and community leaders needed to ensure the safety and security of the community. Joining the police force is a lifetime investment (Gerber, 2001). The police officer enters the four walls of the classroom in order to academically enhance one’s current police knowledge. The police officer enters the school to have a completely molded personality. The police officer learns more new knowledge to update one’s peacekeeping skills as the police officer patrols the danger-tainted streets during one’s tour of duty. Joining the police force includes preparing for various police roles (Gerber, 2001). The police officer can focus on counter-terrorism activities. The police officer can focus on traffic control. Another police officer can focus on kidnapping resolutions. The police officer can spend some part of one’s duty protecting a very important person (VIP) from being ambushed or killed by criminal elements. The police officer can also focus on drug trafficking reduction. The police officer can focus on surveillance operations to generate the necessary proofs or evidences to a crime committed in the community. Based on the above discussion, Public service is indeed a public trust. There are many reasons for venturing into the work world of the police officer. There are other very important reasons for taking up the cudgels of keeping the community peaceful and orderly.
