The author claims that Pakistan is bordering on failure and is a weak country. Three groups pose a great threat to Pakistan, namely; Islamists, tribalists, ethnic-nationalists, and quasi-secularists. The lack of substantial changes like the resignation of Musharraf would result in the Islamists succeeding in the elections. It would also result in Musharraf retaining his uniform in the next leadership term and all this would end up damaging Pakistan’s image to the rest of the world.

Such things have caused poor people to send their children to schools belonging to Islamists in search of quality education. There is clear evidence that Islamists are part of the political system following the election of Rehman as the leader of the opposition. Tribalism is evident in the number of killings in areas occupied by different tribes like Uzbeks and Chechens. Ethno-nationalism is also evident when militants destroyed energy-producing stations in Balochistan (Gladstone, 120). The author has several claims regarding Pakistan as a weak country due to various reasons including failure to protect its citizens.
