Iraq was not found to be holding WMD, but the war was initiated in 2003 and as of writing, is still ongoing. The primary purpose of this investigation is to ascertain whether the advanced technology used by the US and UK to combat the Iraqi forces has helped effectively and hurt strategically to end the war on terror. The impact this has had on the Iraqi state will be discussed with respect to these two parameters.
To discuss the effect on Iraq, it is necessary to know the current death toll caused by coalition forces. The estimates have been placed at between 110,600 violent deaths (by the Associated Press) and 1,033,000 (by the Opinion Research Business survey). The variation in these figures hints at two things – the coalition forces may be trying to reduce the death toll to help continue the justification of the war, and the low technology estimates provided by the Iraq government. The high death toll of Iraqi citizens and the lower death toll of coalition forces (4441 according to www.icasulaties.org) again help to indicate the disparity in technology between the two sides. From these figures, we can see that the coalition forces do indeed have better technology, but have these helped effectively, and does this count as strategic hurt?
