Professionalism: Dental Care - Essay Example

"Professionalism: Dental Care" is a wonderful example of a paper on dental health. When I was in grade 3, one day I got my front tooth broken at the corner in an accident while playing with my cousins. My mother took me to the dentist. The dentist greeted us with a smile. He shook hands with me. My mother explained to him what had happened to my tooth and how. The dentist kindly asked me to open my mouth. I was reluctant as I was very afraid of the instruments and tools in the dentist’s office.

Rather than forcing me to open my mouth, he started telling me an adventurous story. At one point, as I was overwhelmed with excitement, I gasped and opened my mouth, which was probably the moment the whole story was conjured up for. He carefully examined my front tooth with his eyes. He smiled to see that I had almost understood what was going on. He wound up the story in an interesting way. By then, I had developed a certain level of comfort with him, so I believed him when he guaranteed that the instruments would hurt me.

He examined my tooth and suggested treatment and medication. He said that his own son was once very afraid of dental treatments but with local anesthesia, the patient doesn’t feel any pain during the operation. Before we left, the dentist gave me a delicious toffee and shook hands with me. I consider this a very positive experience since the dentist started to feel like a friend to me because he was caring, articulate, and well-mannered behaviorally, and interesting and generous as a person.

I have been seeing the same dentist for all kinds of oral issues ever since.
