"The Reward of a Surgeon" is a great example of a paper on surgery and rehabilitation. Dr. Joan Scott is a cardiac surgeon who considers her work very demanding and tiring but fulfilling. Asked why she became a doctor, Dr. Scott says that she is very passionate about human anatomy. However, she does not like to just know about the parts of the human body and their functions but that she also likes to put her knowledge into use. As a result, she decided to become a surgeon so that she can help other people.

The surgeon says that one of the problems of modern Americans these days is heart disease so she specialized in it in order to help more people who are in need of medical attention. She says that her job makes her enjoy the company of professionals who become a part of the challenges in her job because they often work together in order to analyze the situation of patients and discuss what they need to do in case the situation gets worse. In this manner, she is learning a lot from other doctors which makes her more efficient as a doctor.

Surgeries could really be bloody and awful but as a surgeon, Dr. Scott says she has to focus on her work and perform the best she could. The task is physically and psychologically draining but she says she is also often rewarded with good news such as the success of an operation and the recovery of patients. The smiles she is able to put on the faces of her patients are precious to her. When it comes to the financial aspect, she says that she is paid well so it is also one of the encouraging factors of the job.
