"Registration for Health Practitioners" is a wonderful example of a paper on the health system. Over the last 10 years, the paramedic professional has seen huge changes in the level of participation in research, practice, education, and training.  Hence, they are beginning to develop their own identity professionally and are also beginning to match the skillset and knowledge of other professionals.  They play a very vital role in the healthcare system, providing facilities at the site and ensuring that the patient is transported stable.  They form a very important link in the transition system and their skill set is developing (O’Meara 2009).

Paramedics are able to manage emergency conditions at the site or in the ambulance before the patient enters the hospital.  They are able to manage a wide range of conditions and only in the case of problems, do they take remote support.  Even minor conditions are dealt with by paramedics when they have to educate and reassure patients (The Guardian UK 2012). 

Registration of paramedics is a vital process that permits them to become recognized, opens up numerous career opportunities.  Malaysia is making efforts to register paramedics so that international standards of professionalism are maintained.  Saudi Arabia is already beginning to implement the recommendations set for the registration of paramedics.  Australia has created a registration plan and the same needs to be approved by the Federal Government.  The UK and the US have a system of registration and it is found to be useful (Seeking Media 2010). 

There is a need for paramedics to have their own regulations for registration.  Having a strong regulatory framework through which the paramedic can get trained and registered, and ensuring that practice is regulated with provision for disciplinary action against malpractice.  Further, professional development and better career opportunities would be guaranteed.  More would take up the course and greater would be the interest in studying paramedic sciences at a higher level.  This will promote greater research and teaching in the field (O’Meara 2009).
