Organizational Strategies for Quality Assessment and Improvement - Essay Example

The staff members in a nursing home in Minnesota involved in caring for the elderly and managing the home have been recently assessed. They are engaged in a quality improvement program to review service delivery and care to the elderly. In recent years, the nursing home has grown in terms of facility and numbers of elderly persons admitted. This has not been met with equal service delivery. The main objective is to harmonize and streamline the operations in the nursing home to ensure that each patient gets personalized care.

The organization’s managing director drew up a program to implement a collaborative service delivery from the staff department. The manager clearly defined the roles and responsibilities of the staff and assigned them appropriately. Further, joint decision-making that involved all staff members in the nursing home activities was introduced. Team building and leadership are some of the strategies that the manager is implementing. The nursing home has realized considerable improvement in service delivery by harmonizing and coordinating all staff activities.

In addition to teamwork, I would suggest a rewarding system that recognizes the best participants in the team. To make the quality improvement strategy work better I would recommend grouping the workers into small functional units, forming organizational structures, then in this units, they should foster leadership skills and quality service. Monitoring the weak areas in the structures, functional units, is much easier and will easily help identify areas that need improvement (Manimala, 1999, p. 103).
