"Strategic Alliance" is a wonderful example of a paper on the health system. One strongly supports the contention that forging alliances with other organizations poses both advantages and disadvantages which must be weighed in terms of the overall effect towards the fulfillment of the organizations’ goals. Bernardo, Valls, & Casadesus (2012) presented various definitions of a strategic alliance to gain a greater understanding of the concept. A most plausible definition that applies in the health care setting was noted as “two or more hospitals pooling resources to achieve a long-term objective that is beyond the reach of a single hospital” (Tidd, Bessant, & Pavitt, 2005, pp. 17-19). It was therefore commendable that risks were appropriately identified when entering into alliances which included the attainment of goals, power struggles, and costs. Likewise, motivations or benefits were identified, such as reduction of uncertainties and enhancement of power.

The contentions were similarly corroborated by Bernardo, Valls & Casadesus (2012) who averred that “strategic alliances aim to achieve competitive advantages for their partners” (p. 41). It was also emphasized that “for hospital managers, the most important effects of strategic alliances are the increase in knowledge among health care professionals and the reduction of costs” (Bernardo, Valls, & Casadesus, 2012, p. 45). In sum, one firmly believes that strategic alliances in the hospital setting are forged to enjoin health care practitioners to share new knowledge and applications that aim to improve the wellbeing of those under their care. As disclosed, “the main reasons for creating alliances are human resource–sharing (staff mobility) and training” (Bernardo, Valls, & Casadesus, 2012, p. 45). Thereby, selfish interests and pursuits must take lesser precedence than the paramount interests and welfare of health care professionals whose ultimate goal is to improve patient care.
